No Take me out to the Ballgame?

I'm assuming they're talking about songs that have made the Billboard charts, or something similar to that.

'Course, maybe Take me out to the Ballgame has, I don't know.

They mentioned why no "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" in the article. Which doesn't explain why "Oh, Canada" makes it in, even though that is a sweet anthem.

In the comments section, someone also suggested Liverpool FC's "You'll Never Walk Alone". Check it out on YouTube, it's goosebumps kinda stuff. I might also submit Sinatra's "New York, New York" but as a Yankee fan, I might be slightly biased :D

the 10 greatest sports songs of all time, judging them entirely on their merits as music...all make for good listening even when you're not at a game -- which is why we've nixed Take Me Out to the Ballgame.

I happen to have to Take Me Out to the Ballgame on CD, and I listen to it on a semi-regular basis.

Not an awful list...some hits ans misses

Run for the Roses - Dan Fogelberg

Born in the valley
And raised in the trees
Of Western Kentucky
On wobbly knees
With mama beside you
To help you along
You'll soon be a growing up strong.

All the long, lazy mornings
In pastures of green
The sun on your withers
The wind in your mane
Could never prepare you
For what lies ahead
The run for the roses so red --

And it's run for the roses
As fast as you can
Your fate is delivered
Your moment's at hand
It's the chance of a lifetime
In a lifetime of chance
And it's high time you joined
In the dance
It's high time you joined
In the dance --

From sire to sire
It's born in the blood
The fire of a mare
And the strength of a stud
It's breeding and it's training
And it's something unknown
That drives you and carries
You home.

And it's run for the roses
As fast as you can
Your fate is delivered
Your moment's at hand
It's the chance of a lifetime
In a lifetime of chance
And it's high time you joined
In the dance
It's high time you joined
In the dance --

:) :) :) :)

Boxing is not a sport?

"Sweet Georgia Brown" is the theme song for the Harlem Globetrotters.

ESPN tends to regard horse racing as a sport, though. There were three horses on the sports century 100 team (Citation, Man o'War, and Secretariat.) There were also 12 track and field athletes on the list, all of whom were way slower than the average horse (not to mention a triple-crown winner). But you've got to give a little credit to America's first (and still among its greatest) professional songwriters. Too many music lists suffer from a bad case of 20th-century bias.

I'm surprised you called a song with clear ties to I-AA a "miss." Bugler's Dream is the Appalachian State kickoff song. I have it on a CD and drive around listening to it in my car.

Sweet Georgia Brown is the Harlem Globetrotters theme song. (What Joe Said)

I have run many a 5K in which a course official has "Gonna Fly Now" blaring from a boombox at about mile 1. That it usually works at pumping me up makes me feel silly. Chariots of fire would be a good addition to the list.

Horse Racing not a sport? Wow, wait 'til I let ESPN know, since they show the 'Race of the Week' leading up to the Breeder's Cup, each Saturday. And coming from a guy who claims the #1 gay hit of all time as the best sports song!

Sports songs gotta have at least a reference to sports. That is not my list BTW... : smh :

Ralph, obviously you either don't like or you don't know much about horse racing, which for centuries has been called "The S-P-O-R-T of Kings" So I guess you're gonna see to it that the whole world was/is wrong?
As for the song:" We are the Champions", you certainly concurred with the author by your comment. If my Fight'n Blue Hens ever sang that song, I'd suggest they change their uni's to pink and white, and forever be called The Whining Pink Flamingos :p . I'd switch allegiance to Villanofun!
BTW, there's a 2 year old colt in training, owned by my cousin, and named after me and SuncoastBlueHen. His name is Rapid Ron and should be ready to race in October.
Gee, maybe I should've posted that last comment on the Lounge board since horseracing has been declared a non-sport.xidiotx

foghorn: best of luck to your colt, and good job in not starting his career too early. 2 year olds that race in the spring never make serious noise.

Auto racing?? Lets see you drive a 5,000 pound car 200 MPH for 4 hours. I bet you couldn't do it and not be tired like you had just played a "sport." That's just a stupid comment to make.xidiotx

... horseracing has been declared a non-sport.if you want to think riding on the back of something else in a race is a sport then more power to you. it is a sport but not a human sport.

Why is it when a horse wins a race, we give credit to the horse, but when a car wins a race we give credit to the driver?:D

I remember an article in SI a numver of years ago arguing that chess was a sport and that chess players were athletes:confused:
