I can see it now, Coach Huesman makes some goofy call on a two-point play and UTC loses by one.

So losing to Indiana State is better than playing UTC close and losing to The Citadel (which beat GSU and ASU in back-to-back weeks)?

About the only close ones I remember the Mocs winning were a couple of wins over Appalachian State, once when Donnie Allison was coaching and that crazy 2004 game when records were falling from drive to drive and UTC won 59-56 when Hans Batichon dropped a first-down pass on the final drive.

UTC beat The Citadel by 3 in 2009 (Huesman's first year as coach). The Mocs were 2-2 in three-point-or-less games in 2006 and 3-0 in 2005, 2-1 in 2004, So the close losses are basically in the Huesman era.

They had gained points on us anyway last week even with both of us winning. In the AGS poll, they had already jumped us. I expect the other polls to do the same. They won't have looked, they'll just see that they won and we had to go to 3 OT's to win.

It is hard to see how UTC could win the automatic bid. UTC would lose tiebreakers with GSU, ASU, and the two together. A potential 4 way tie would go to GSU. A 3 way UTC/GSU/WC would go to GSU.
Considering that GSU has only one SoCon game left, I cannot come

Playing on the road is a tough task for many teams. Chattanooga has had this game circled on the calendar for a year. They played their hearts out, and GSU was fortunate to win. But win they did, and that's all that matters. Let's not forget that Russell was on crutches all week, starting B-back Swope didn't make the trip due to a concussion and they took an OL player and put him at center for most of the game due to the starter getting injured early, even though he didn't take a single snap there in practice last week. I know that those things shouldn't matter, but the really do at this time of the season.

How would a 4-way tie automatically go to GSU. In the case of ASU, GSU, UTC and WoCo all being tied at 6-2 in the conference ASU and GSU would be 2-1 among the leaders, with UTC and WoCo both 1-2. ASU gets the head to head against GSU and UTC is eliminated from at large consideration because of only 6 D1 wins (all this is a long shot and ASU's only shot at the autobid, but still it's possible).

Good game....I'm going to go die of a heart attack now.
Huesman isn't close to fast enough to put in Armanti Edwards, or Jayson Foster territory.

They had gained points on us anyway last week even with both of us winning. In the AGS poll, they had already jumped us. I expect the other polls to do the same. They won't have looked, they'll just see that they won and we had to go to 3 OT's to win.
I understand either way. Honestly I don't want to be #1 with App coming to town.
I would be surprised if NDSU hoped past Georgia Southern in the College Sports Journal poll.

Armanti Edwards was not fast enough to be in Jayson Foster territory either.
I said that type of player, meaning he's in that mold. I didn't discuss his numbers. If you had watched the game tonight, you'd agree. He looked quick against our defense and we are by no means slow. Plus his running ability hurt us when we bit on the keeper.

Jacob is still fast but lost some speed with the added weight he put on. He played a good game tonight. He was a magician at times and the huesman to t rob connection is going to be great for chattanooga for years to come.
Our defense played pretty well tonight. Very well once we switched up schemes by allowing our DEs to make plays instead of just occupying the lineman so the lbs could run free. Davis tull is a monster and he proved that he is in the conversation as the best defensive player in the league.

Maybe in your opinion, but I'll put our poll up against anyone's right now for where the teams are ranked. The coaches don't have a clue, don't watch many games and some don't even really make their own votes. The TSN's poll has its share of SIDs voting for their own teams and for teams from their conferences, etc. The SIDs don't watch anyone other than their own team play.
AGS and CSJ are the best polls out there.

Eastern Washington is the best team I've seen out there, but the Eagles have a freshman QB and have been playing a lot of close games. Don't dump on EWU too much for losing to Brad Sorensen and a physically talented, but young in some places, Southern Utah squad. Montana State is going to run into trouble if it meets up with a team with bigger, physical lines. Cal Poly and Northern Arizona have some talent, but haven't been tested that much. Sacramento State has flashes of being good, but has been inconsistent. Trying to get my best look yet at the Hornets tonight, if that Big Sky TV feed will work.

I posted on this once and the Cyberspace gremlins just feasted on it. If you are a smart committee member, you are going to look at everything you can get your hands on to do a very difficult job. From time to time, I've had committee members pick my brains on what I thought of certain teams. That being said, the polls that matter the most are the regional polls that the committee puts together and has conference calls on each Monday afternoon. They put their own national rankings together from that.

A lot of times, it is because of good decision-making, nice reads and good fakes that a QB has success on the read option.
Another good young spread runner at QB is redshirt freshman John Robertson of Villanova. Andy Talley thinks Robertson is as fast as Matt Szczur.

Sadly, Chattanooga has no one to blame but themselves for poor attendance...when your program sucked for the better part of 2 decades, you had pretty much no dedicated fanbase being cultivated from the 1990's until the last year or two.
So, all you have are old diehards from the 70's and 80's and some current students. To really get fans to show up, you have to win these type games. No one shows up regularly for a 6-5 program. To fill up the bandwagon (and then hopefully turn them into long-term fans), you have to go to the playoffs with some regularity. People show up for ASU and GSU (even when they have an occasional bad year) because they have been consistently good for decades. That is the only way you build a loyal following.
That being said, the Mocs have been "oh so close" the last two seasons against the big boys of the SoCon...if they could ever just break through and get that signature win, I think you would see a completely different program.
But still, as a long term fan, I can't say that I am not proud of the Mocs and their performance last night. They were "right there" with one of the best teams in the country (arguably one play, or mistake, away from a win). Coach Huesman is doing the right things at Chattanooga. He has replaced the misfit transfer culture of the past and turned into a team of solid 4-year players. No matter what the record, I don't think anyone can't claim that the Mocs haven't made progress each of the last 4 years.
It was an incredibly exciting game and I tip my hat to GSU on their win. They have been in so many games like this over the years, they know how to win them...something the Mocs program still has to learn how to do.

Also, anybody who thinks GSU beat a weak team last night, or that wasn't a quality win, hasn't seen UC play. They are good and probably one of the top 25 teams in FCS, even if the polls won't reflect it. Wofford is going to have their hands more than full with them.

Observations:
UTC has a good offense and and good defense. Better than expected.
Didn't know going into the game that we would be without our #1 AND #2 B-Backs. I think that weighed heavily AGAINST our offense.
The refs did a good job MUCKING up some calls on both sides of the ball.
Huesman is more impressive than Robinson in all aspects of the game.
I'm naming my 3rd child "Zach Walker."
Still hoarse from screaming.
Tull is good, but our blocking was crap, especially in the 3rd quarter.
Special teams jumped up and bit BOTH teams in the ***.

With our already prevalent fumble issues, if we'd put someone in at B-Back that hadn't taken a snap at the position all year, I'd be mortified at what the results would be. Even with prior experience you still need reps to keep you sharp.
What happened with Seon Jones last night is evidence for that. Seon was supposed to be the backup, but some poor decisions in the preseason led to him being suspended for the first 2 games and gave Banks/Dean the opportunity to step in front of him. They've had enough work as backups to have confidence in them to step in for Swope. B-Back was not the problem last night in any case.

If UTC takes care of business they "should" be 6-5 at the end of the season. Solid base to build on for next year with 18 starters returning, and 38 of 44 on 2 deep returning. Given the mess Huesman inherited, UTC is in pretty good shape at this point, but has another level to get to.

If you are talking hand-held times, throw them out right off the top. The only way to time guys is with track and field Accu-Track type systems (which every school that has track and field has). To say he is 4.42 (which I doubt) would be in Armanti Edwards territory. The film I saw had both Huesman and Robinson playing and Robinson was clearly quicker.

As for his speed, his HS has excellent facilities and he may have been timed using an electronic device, but do not know that for a fact. May have been timed on such devices at other times.

I might be remembering this wrong, but didn't Allison start his son over more qualified candidates? It could be the lingering effects of that causing that criticism.
You are correct, but Allison was on a fail safe year knowing it was his last as coach. Why not go ahead and let your son go out chucking it LOL. To his son's credit he stayed around after his dad was removed and accepted a position as a role player and did very well.

Most SoCon fans were equating it with Kye Hamilton at Elon (quite frankly, UTC was so bad towards the end with Allison, it didn't even really matter who the starting QB was, they were all pretty bad)
Nothing like this, for sure...
FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK: Jacob Huesman, Chattanooga, Fr., QB, Chattanooga, Tenn.
Freshman Jacob Huesman rushed 26 times for a season-high 170 yards and two touchdowns in Chattanooga's 39-31, triple-overtime loss to second-ranked Georgia Southern. Huesman's 170 yards were the second-most rushing yards in a game by a freshman at UTC. He also completed 11 of 20 passes for 102 yards and a touchdown. It was the second time this season Huesman passed for and ran for 100 yards in the same game. He also caught one pass for 16 yards and accounted for 288 yards of total offense in the loss.

Very impressed with Huesman, but I can't help being unimpressed with the Eagle's D the last two years when dealing with a passing QB who can run.
