Add another notch to the accomplishments for the Southern Conference’s power teams.

Appalachian State etched its name on the list of national title winners in 2005, a list that already includes fellow conference heavyweights Furman and Georgia Southern. The national championship pulls the Mountaineers on a familiar common ground with the Paladins and Eagles, as the top three programs in the Southern Conference have been synonymous with each other since Marshall left the league in 1996.
