They are giving losses to teams, so they have less wins to accumulate in their opponents schedule strength, at this time at least.

Because most elite teams pad their non-conference resumes with home games against teams that are perceived to be weak.

I'm confused, some of the W-L records add up to a low total for being 7 games in.

Last in the FCS is Sac State with 4-30 well UND alone has a 3-4 record. No way Sac St has played 6 other games with their opponent only having 1 win between all of them. I don't get where they get their numbers. I thought this thing would be accurate since its from the NCAA.

Does this really mean anything? Lehigh has beat 3 of these teams thus giving them part of their tough W-L% schedule. But many don't think Lehigh is a top 20 team. Lehigh plays a cupcake schedule, now this SOS info. What gives?
Hawk98
October 15th, 2012, 07:20 PM
Not that this is a good SOS measure, but Lehigh has a harder schedule than NAU, Albany, NDSU, and Stony Brook. Maybe they are underrated. ;-)

I think it is record at the time the game is played.

xbangx really? Lehigh has beat 3 of the teams that have played the toughest schedule, largely padded by Lehigh's record. That has absolutely nothing to do with Lehigh's SOS.

WOW!! This seems AFU!!
Not to be a hommer "BUT" YSU has played 6 games; 1 BCS team, 4 top 25 ranked teams, and Valpo. Damn no wonder we're 4-2 LOL!! How is YSU's schedule not ranked in the top 10??

Yeah, JMU and other CAA teams have had years like that. It's how a 7-4 team beats out a 9-2 team for an at-large playoff spot. The NCAA Selection Committee seems to recognize and reward appropriately. But no matter how many playoff spots they create, there will always be the first team left out - sometimes unfairly.

It's almost laughable reading some of the reaction posts in this thread. First of all, this is entirely opponents' w/l. So playing 6-1 Jacksonville is going to give you a higher number than playing a 5-1 NDSU in this measurement. It's merely a statistical gauge of SOS. It's nothing to take any alarming or offensive reaction to. It's simply the numbers of what the opponent's records were when each team played each team on its schedule.

Look at SHSU as well. Last year's national runner up might be left out in the cold if they don't win their conference sure to two BCS games and a non-counter.
And our schedule didn't hurt us. Injuries and playing poorly has kept us out this year.

Yeah the SOS from Sagarin or Massey is a better measure, but I'm sure UND doesn't look as favorable there which is why Darrell posted this one.

Though Elon's had a tough year, they have played a fairly tough schedule through 6 games:
UNC (blowout)
#3 Georgia Southern (lost by 3)
#8 Wofford (blowout)
#13 App (lost by 12)
Also have a 31-14 win over the MEAC's current team in 1st.

They actually do look pretty favorable in the Sagarin, top 10 or 11 SOS there, I lost count. I know that'll disappoint some of the darell obsessed posters, though. xcoffeex

Thanks for posting this, I was trying to find it.
For Nova, it is .500 across the board, which just makes me scratch my head and leads me to the conclusion this is a useless compilation of stats. That is just weird. Everyone they have played is cumulative .500 and everyone they have yet to play is cumulative .500. However the remaining teams include Towson, JMU and Delaware, clearly not .500 teams. Throw in Georgia State and you get to .500. Not really a measure of SOS for the remaining games.

I thought this SOS was more accurate since it was from the NCAA not a Sagarin or Massey site. As for UND in their SOS they are 18 in Massey and number 10 in Sagarin's.

No problem. This has been the toughest season UND has ever faced, and will only prepare them for the future. I chalk this up as a learning experience. Going from 2 FBS teams and 3 DII/NAIA teams to one of the top teams in the FCS for 4 straight weeks capped off by Montana is going from one extreme to another.

I guess I hadn't looked at your schedule, but I don't think anyone has a stretch of FCS games like you guys. Cal Poly, Eastern Washington, NAU, Montana, and then Montana State. That is a brutal stretch.
We are sort of in the midst of something similar. YSU, NDSU, SIU, SDSU, and then Illinois St. Those are a couple of tough stretches for both our teams.

I feel you guys pain: ISU, @IlSU, UNI, @YSU, @NDSU, SDSU........any team that puts up a 7-4 record with a stretch like that is well worthy of a hard look come playoff time...

You can have the #1 ranked SOS before the year starts but if you go undefeated against it, it will go down.
Because if you beat them, then they aren't as tough an opponent.
