or in the case of Cal Poly, faring at this point... http://www.collegesportingnews.com/entry.php?230-Following-the-FCS-Scoreboard-10-13-2012

No huge surprises in the top 25 outside of ranked teams losing to other ranked (and conference) opponents - which are always close.

Even the ranked losses outside the top 25 were to teams close to the top 25 and conference games.
4. Old Dominion hosted and lost 38-14 to (31) Villanova (probably the only game close to a surprise)
20. Northern Iowa lost 34-31 at (34) Southern Illinois

Either I'm not understanding how it works, or the polls part is all screwed up. Cal Poly is #1 in both polls? NDSU is #6 in both? wha??!

NDSU #2 in 10/15 poll, SDSU is tied for 6th in this newest GPI rating. Pretty good for a school that the Coaches don't believe is even a top 25 program.

... And cue Dane freaking out about the GPI in 5... 4... 3... 2...

If I'm right about this GPI being messed up, they're more like #1 and #10.

I know, I thought danefan was gonna pile on about 5 seconds after I posted.

Nope...and I am not speaking for him but just proffering an opinion...but Danefan and myself are like many others here: 1) we don't believe the GPI has a real value other than consolidation; and 2) we don't agree--without any hard evidence to give notice otherwise--that the GPI is an official tool used by the selection committee for anything other than the bridge qualifier. Since the bridge qualifier has never been used...we believe the tool is not used to the extent that Ralph claims it is.

It's pretty simple.

I was thinking you'd both jump all over the alleged mistake, but it just hit me that that opinion means not caring if it's correct or not.

Damn,

NDSU 2 - SDSU 6 - ISU-r 8 - ISU-b 11 - YSU 12

Ahhh...you miss the point. I care so little about the GPI that I only rail against it's owner's false claims. I could care less about the ultimate '"correctness" of something that is flawed from the get.

Cheers.

NDSU 2 - SDSU 6 - ISU-r 8 - ISU-b 11 - YSU 12

CP 1 - EWU 3 - MSU 5 - NAU 6 Throw all that out if they messed up the GPI. I'll do the top 4 and Ralph can do the rest.
1) 2.14 NDSU
2) 3.43 E. Washington
3) 5.29 Georgia So. - they got that one right
4) 5.71 Cal Poly

Not sure what you are referring to saying "they messed up the GPI". In any case I was just saying if one values GPI, 4 in top 6>2 in top 6 or 5 in top 12.

"*if* they messed up the GPI," but I'm as sure that they messed it up as I was sure that NDSU will go 11-0. :) I explained on page 1 with a link to their data.

heh, ok, that was funny. I'll take back my 'ran into the ground' comment.

Update, CSN corrected it.

NDSU 1 - SDSU 6T - ISU-r 9 - ISU-b 12 - YSU 15
EWU 2 - CP 4 - MSU 5 - NAU 6T
MVFC 1 - Southern 2 - Big Sky 3 - CAA 4

2. E Washington (2) (3.43)
3. Ga Southern (5.29)
4. Cal Poly (2) (5.71)
5. Montana St (8.29)
6T. Northern Arizona (1) (11.00)
6T. S Dakota St (11.00)
8. Sam Houston St (11.14)
9. Illinois St (11.86)
10. James Madison (12.00)
11. Appalachian St (12.43)
12. Indiana St (13.71)

Of the Big Sky teams in the Top 6, there has only been 1 head-to-head matchup (EWU @ Montana St.) between them. Once these teams start playing each other, it will be impossible for them to stay this high in the GPI and polls.

I noticed a Georgia Southern fan on another thread asking how NDSU could still possibly be #1 after losing to an unranked team at home. The answer? They were really freaking good to start with (still are) and taking them down a peg or three still has them at or near the top of FCS football. Sorry for partying.

Well a lot of the top Big Sky aren't going to be playing each other. NAU avoids nearly every good Big Sky team which makes me think 8-3 isn't going to be good enough for some big sky teams to make the playoffs.

You are right, even with their season finale against Cal Poly, it appears NAU has the softest remaining schedule.

Montana State has no remaining games versus the others in the current Top 6 of the GPI, EWU & NAU have only one (both vs Cal Poly) and Cal Poly has two (EWU & NAU, obviously). I still think there are a enough head-to-head battles here to ensure things are going to get shaken up. I also wouldn't be surprised to see teams like Montana, Sac State, UND or SUU sneak up and bite a couple of these squads either. Long story short, there is a ton of football left to be played - should be fun!

If you're talking about the same post I saw, it's important to note it was the lakes of georgia southern who said that.
