Here ya go...
Frazier Back As NCCU Head Football Coach (http://www.herald-sun.com/view/full_story/19554183/article-Frazier-back-as-NCCU-head-football-coach)
Frazier since May had been on paid leave from his $225,000-a-year job while his wife's allegation of assault made its way through the Wake County court system.
Shortly after midnight on May 14, police responded to Frazier's house on Bending Branch Court in Morrisville after being notified that a domestic assault had occurred. Officers found evidence of an assault, but Frazier wasn’t there.
Police later caught up with Frazier in his car not far from the house. The coach was charged with assault on a female and jailed at the Wake County Detention Center, where he was released the same day under a $1,500 secured bond.
Frazier signed a court document on which he admitted to getting into an argument with his wife before trying to pray for her and anoint her with oil, but that's not something she wanted to occur.
According to a police report, Frazier pushed his wife in the face and broke her eyeglasses, and a mark was left on her arm.
Frazier pleaded guilty. He still will have on his record that he was convicted of assault on a female even if he successfully completes a program aimed at helping him understand abusive behavior, Wake County prosecutor Jefferson Griffin said. If Frazier completes the program, the judgment will be continued and he'll have no further obligations to meet regarding the matter, Griffin said.

Why is "assault on a female" a crime? How is it different than assaulting a male? Or is it only charged if a man hits his wife/girlfriend?
