Home games on the road are possible for ACC teams that need to run away from hurricanes. I know this is on the mind of lots of us from Florida to Texas, even some of you folks up the east coast.

I believe last year, we had the whole stink when a McNeese game was originally moved to the Houston area. It was later moved to Lafayette at the CajunDome, but the McNeese faithful were not happy at all with the SLC...

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. -- Approaching hurricanes could force Miami, Florida State and other Atlantic Coast Conference schools to play home games on the road.

With open dates becoming scarce and hurricanes seemingly becoming more common, the conference announced a new policy Tuesday that established strict rules regarding the rescheduling of games affected by natural disasters.

"Hopefully it won't come into play," ACC commissioner John Swofford said as the league wrapped up its preseason media days. "But we feel like we need to be as prepared as we can be for it and hope we don't have to use it."

The new league policy states that every effort will be made to play the game at its scheduled site on an alternate date prior to the conference championship game.

I'm just happy to see this kind of preparedness underway. McNeese and maybe some of the others got robbed of the chance to go to play-offs because too few games....

SLC/SWAC/SoCon/Big South should definitely consider this contingency planning.

Too our Nichols/McNeese game partners this year. Bunnies have only 4 home games, we'd happily host if need be. But also look forward to catching some Cajun tailgating!

McNeese was 5-4. If they wanted a playoff appearance, they could've easily gone to the playoffs as a 6-3. Should've not got drummed by TxSt 49-7 or fallen to Nicholls St 39-7. They had a tough year, but they'll be battle-tested and ready for this year. I do not believe they got robbed in the least bit.

I agree. That's just what all these institutions have got to keep in mind, not just on the field of play, but in case they get washed out for a week or few as it relates to academics. Having lost a job from a place of higher education due to Katrina and seeing how they've reacted in the last year has been very intriguing to watch. All schools now have to keep hurricane season in mind, knowing they'll possibly lose a few days, if not more because of the evacuation and clean-up...
