Breakout game? Or letdown game?

Full breakdown and fearless prediction will most likely come tonight.

1st things 1 st, agree excellent Hard cider. Reisterers from LI only better I've had.
Will be a tough game. They are bigger and faster, ala Liberty, but they have tasted victory. O pedestrian other than Koonce. D better than in past yrs but has not been tested yet other than Cornell's first game. A real trap,if we come out flat.

Lehigh's offense is poised for a break out performance. This could finally be the week it happens. Spadola is going to leave his mark imo.

Under Coen Lehigh has always shown the ability to improve as the season goes on. The pieces are there but the offensive consistency still needs to be found. Fordham is a big hurdle to potentially big things. A win over the Rams and the Hawks COULD very easily be 8-0 heading into the bye. The Rams are formidable but Lehigh, overall, is better.

Current forecast for Saturday is mostly sunny with high of 68--perfect, so long as the winds lay low. It appears we'll be sneaking between two systems with some rain Friday, but ending very late and then some showers on Sunday. That said, key will be stopping the vaunted Ram running game. With our experienced secondary, I think the LBs can concentrate on run support first. With this being the first "league game" from a mental standpoint, I don't think there will be any problem of a letdown from last week. Fordham has too good a record to let the happen.

If I was an Engineer, oops Mountain Hawk as opposed to the Hawks they have at Penn State, I would watch Brian Wetzel and Sam Ajala.

Funny Rich, from my vantage point our O is actually pretty special but it's the D that is pedestrian at best.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Disregarding Lock Haven, FU has shown some toughness vs Nova and edged Nell and Col. Run up some nice rushing stats. Not much else. D did pretty well limiting Matthews in Nell's 1st game. Otherwise they have not faced a good offense yet. Still FU big and fast and much much improved over last yr. Biggest thing is HC teaching team how to win.

Maybe... Fordham gave up yards to pass-happy Cornell... but Colvin has to be able to get the ball to Spadola first.

Looking at the game notes, I noticed #12 Nebrich isn't even listed on the roster, though he is listed on the Fordham website. I know he's not playing against Lehigh, and he might be done for the year with that ligament tear, but is he off the team completely?

Closing in on game time! I'm confident about this one assuming Lehigh doesn't turn the ball over. Koonce will get some yards but, overall, the LU run defense will hold down the fort. The rams kicker is very good so they'll score between the 20s.

I have no idea how Lehigh got down 14-0. From what I saw the LU offense looked very good. The OL was completely controlling the line of scrimmage. Spadola is having a very good game. The Fordham QB looks very good. I think Lehigh has more balance on offense which should help them in the second half.

Tough loss but Lehigh did exactly what great teams do - they win in the clutch. Int'l grounding call absolutely crushed us to start that last drive. 2nd & 21 from the 1yd line very tough to convert and the resulting field position really put Lehigh in great position to march down for the FG. Congrats Engineers, very tough fought win.

I wouldn't look at it that way at all. Fordham already has rebounded. The Rams simply need to play just as they did this afternoon, and they'll do very well through the PL schedule. Enough for Cincinnati? Perhaps not. But Fordham will be just fine.

Yup, Lehigh is beatable. But no one has done it yet. Thank God for FU radio. LU does make it hard to get game. And when you do presentation not great.

Again great clutch plays. By O and D. Still left lots of plays on the field . Lots of drops. Thought Andrews had INT for a TD had to hold on. Knew FU would be better, surprised how good they are. Like Gate they will score on anyone. Really blitzed our D early. Mike some great clutch plays but still inconsistent. One day they will play a consistent game on O. Just hope it is this year.

Nope. If you watched their QB and skill guys you would have seen. Lehigh's defense stepped up when they had to. Lehigh's defense must have came up with a huge stop with 3 minutes or so left...

Was very impressed with Fordham QB, very accurate throws. Except for the glaring mistakes on offense by Rams (2 snaps past QB and some dumb penalties), they probably win this one.

Another nail biter, but this season is creating more exciting games than last year. Hopefully we stay on the winning side. Secondary was shaky all game and left way too many Fordham receivers wide open. Surprised we didn't tighten up the coverage since their running game wasn't as strong as anticipated.

Colvin looked good in the first half, except for the interception, with Spadola playing uncharacteristically flat. That reversed in the 2nd half with a number of balls thrown behind receivers. Still can't put together 4 solid quarters.

Attendance: 9291, edging out last year's Holy Cross game by less than 75. Largest non-Lafayette crowd in past 5 seasons.

The Fordham QB did a great job extending the play. Lehigh's front 7 got good pressure on him all game yet 9/10 times he would step out and find an open receiver down the field. Trying to cover for more than 4 or 5 seconds is very difficult. Fordham is, imo, easily the best team Lehigh has faced.

Hopefully Lehigh can come out and put Columbia to bed early next week.

The injury bug, for now, seems to have left which should help to build consistency. There's been very few, if any, Hawk players helped off the field these last 3 games.

Mike still gets scatterarmed but not as much. Heck, if Andrews and Bianchi snag those balls different game. FU Qb was outstanding. He lit up our secondary. All in all did a good job on Koonve. He had some ru.s but we held him well under 4 yds per.

Colvin has been better than I think some would have believed. His decision making overall is solid and he's obviously a great athlete. He's by no means Lum but he's still a very solid FCS QB. The one thing he's better at than Lum is avoiding the forced pass. Lum for as great as he was threw some real head scratching picks. Colvin has only had a couple of them through 5 games.

I agree with you on Colvin. He has exceeded my expectations coming into the season. We all knew he could run, but he had shown a good arm and has made some great, crisp passes. There was one completion today to Fernandez-Soto that he threaded the needle on, under pressure. If Cecchini allows him to pass the ball more, I think we will see some better results.

He is what I expected after the B&W game. Today he continued to miss open receivers. The offense is still to inconsistent and as the weeks go on and we see who beats who, it continues to add up that LU is not a strong team as much as I would prefer otherwise, I am just not seeing it. The record is more a reflection of who we played rather than performance.

He just lacks consistency and a bit of confidence. It seems like once he makes a bad pass it takes 3 or 4 to get it going again. He doesn't have the "short term memory" yet that many QB's have. Lum was very good at bouncing back from interceptions and/or poor decisions.

I think this team is still pretty darn good. In fact, I think they have more potential than the 2010 squad. Every week they're taking the other teams best shot and surviving. MU and Fordham will be winning teams by the end of the year. Princeton and Liberty, I think, will prove to respectable as well.

Enough miscues from Fordham to not pull off the upset. Rams need to get ready for Georgetown. Biggest non-lafayette crowd in 5 years....Patriot League football is headed in the right direction. Expect packed Jack Coffey field next week versus G'Twn. Higgins has every chance to be one of Fordham's best Patriot League QB's.

Agree with all. We are not yet a consistent team but a more talented one.Mike surely a better athlete than Chris, not as good a QB. He is improving every week. I am hoping we get to see BB for a period or more next week. OL was much better this week.
Just saw Pards lost to RMU. Must go and yank P4L's chain as he did to us all afternoon. Please join me.

Got in a short while ago. Was there at Goodman for today's very entertaining game. Positives: Lehigh came out flat (maybe from the big win last week) and got smacked in the face. We came roaring back and had them on the ropes. Offense looked terrific for the last 22 minutes of the first half running and passing. Spadola, though, dropped two passes. Defense way too soft in secondary. Receivers wide open, but some of that was due to Fordham QB having way too much time to find secondary receivers. Seems to me we may have been too focused on stopping Koonce and they took advantage of the play-action passing. Nice to see Sodeke do some nice runs and catches. Giving Sherman and Barket more backup. Sherman being used on short yardage a mistake. Not a shoulders-down runner, too straight up style. Need to use Barket who never goes in reverse. Colvin played very solid game, along with nice runs. Had close to 6 dropped or he's 30-40 for 400 yards. Great kicking game for the second week in a row. Divers' punting was excellent close to 45 ave. and a great pooch punt. Peery gets the big confidence builder. His leg is greatly improved strength-wise. Hitting two FGs today should really help him going forward. Great crowd today and good noise which may have impacted FU's offense resulting in some botched snaps and false starts. Fordham is greatly improved from last year. Some very good skill guys and speed. I think Moorhead had a pretty good game plan and has FU playing hard. I got the sense last year that FU gave up when we got up on them. Not this year. They fought to the end.
Now, Lehigh cannot let up with "lowly" Columbia next week. Coen only has to point to RMU's win over Laughyette and ask the team, "Is that going to be you?"

I also think LU offense more effective when in a hurry up mode. Additionally, while thrilled with the outcome, I though the winning drive could have been managed better. After the completion to the 5, there was time to run a play and take a knee in the center on the field.

Agree, but coach certainly showed confidence in Peery by letting the clock run down. Also, Rams OL was very good, probably the best we have faced by quite a margin. Not sure how they only put up 20 on Columbia and lost to Nova. Maybe just a matter of time before they get that winning tradition and attitude back.

I would not be surprised if Rams preseason pick next yr. A lock if Higgins wasn't a senior.

Fordham is a very, very good football team that will win more games this year if they play the way they did yesterday in big stretches. If they clean up some of their key mistakes, watch out. I was especially impressed with their OC, who really came up with a great gameplan against us.

People called our schedule cupcakes. Liberty, Fordham and Monmouth were absolutely not cupcakes. Fordham could have been the best of them all.

I too, am worried about Fordham... but their games "don't count." It was clear coaching was the issue. FU always had the talent.

Agree P4L, Fu has been bigger and faster the last 2yrs. Now they actually have coaching. Their D no longer resembles a chinses fire drill. Higgins extremely accurate passer. Koonce is a tiny flitting waterbug, hard to find and harder to tackle. We did a decent job containing him and he still got over 100 and FU lit up our 2ndary.

Actually, I campare him more to Ron Jean. Stronger than Pugh, thought quicker than Jean. Very shifty. We really did a good job shutting him down, which is part of the reason we had gaps in our secondary. I think we committed out LBs to more run support that dropping into passing defense than usual.

Too much b1tching about media coverage.Maybe thats done on purpose???????Can't vote against what you don't see.BUT its seems to always be the inferior ones(shi*ty team$) that complain and whine the most.Did not see Bobby Morris-Pussy game on TV either:(So much for the undefeated teams playing in NOV. PL fans live in such a small cubical. Thanks for the comedy, keep making excuses and whining-especially Lafayette xbowx

Thanks for explaining. I thought maybe that was the case, but I wasn't certain. I thought you had a QB coach that might do that.
