Is John Kruk gonna have to carry the show now? Amazing that Joe Morgan still has a job.

Harold was pretty adament about A-Rod having lost it and they should trade him. Wonder if ole George made a phone call.

That doesn't mean they would fire him though, Kruk ain't got that much pull

AppGuy04

Well, he and Kruk into a pretty heated argument and Harold basically said that ARod had lost it. I've never heard him be so critical of a player before and Kruk got pretty heated and started to defend ARod. It would not surprise me if George made a call to Bristol.

I don't think Steinbrenner has that kinda pull outside of the Bronx.

Just throwing things out there, seems kind of an odd firing

Harold Reynolds was at his best in Omaha every year & Williamsport too. He like to talk about teaching the game at both of those locations, I'll miss him. I wonder if ESPN hires a minority replacement.

Harold won't have a problem finding a job. I did like his commentary, one of the very few I actually like

Why would ESPN care what Steinbrenner thinks? The Yankees are rarely on ESPN because they have their own network. Also if it came down to firing Kruk or H. Reynolds, I can't believe Kruk wouldn't be the one heading out the door. Hopefully Baseball Tonight's & ESPN popularity takes another hit w/this, Reynolds is definetely one of the best.

What does that matter?! I definitely will miss him too. I think he was GREAT at the CWS and Little League WS...it brought out his true love for the game. But what does it matter what race the replacement is? I just want someone with as much passion, understanding and respect for the game as Reynolds has.

My thoughts exactly.

griz37, the Yanks are rarely on ESPN?? I'd have to disagree.

Without the Yanks, the value of baseball as a whole goes down considerably

and yes, ESPN will be pestered to hire a minority, which is some more of this bull**** with minority coaches, the cream akways rises, no matter what color IMO

They contribute greatly to mystique and merchandise sales. Don't get me wrong, I hate the Yanks, but they are the most recognizable thing in baseball

This is shocking news to me. Harold Reynolds was my favorite baseball guy.
He was great at explaining the intricacies of the game, instead of just the obvious. Always had a friendly disposition and seemed to have great tact when dealing with controversy. I'll miss him very much.:(

No kidding.

However, it's plainly obvious to me that Joe Morgan musta had a steady diet of lead paint chips as a kid.

Joe Morgan is terrible and has been for 10 years! Reynolds, on the other hand, I liked.

It amazes me that they'll keep an ignoramus like Steven A Smiff, but let a good guy like Reynolds go.

Musta been a dust-up behind the scenes for this to occur.

Hmmm. Well without anyone else really having a nightly baseball only show I would think his job options are limited, though I wouldnt mind Kevin Kennedy getting canned and replaced by Reynolds.

I wonder if TBS will have a indepth show prior to and following there new baseball broadcasts?

The Yankees are on ESPN a lot, including last nite. Just cause they have the YES network doesnt mean anything. ESPN has the right to broadcast a certain amount of games each year with a limit on how many times 1 team can appear per season. Obviously a great amount of Yankees games on ESPN are vs Boston. However if you live in the NY market you wouldnt notice cause of the blackout rules.

I wouldnt be totally surprised if it had to do with the A Rod thing, however I'd be very surporised if because of Steinbrenner. It would be more likely Bud Selig called because they want there most marketable player in the nations largest market. And I can see Selig saying... "Shut him up or else" Afterall baseball is right there with NFL as ESPNs bread and butter...until NASCAR returns next year anyway.

deadspin is reporting that it had to do with Sexual Harrasment.

"We can't say for sure why Harold Reynolds was fired from ESPN yesterday, because ESPN hasn't put out a statement or anything (and they don't have to), but we can tell you what the chatter in Bristol is: Everyone is hearing sexual harassment. Every single email we've received from the inside about this today has used those very two words."

Sad to see HR go...as for Morgan, he is terrible...the worst was a Sunday night Phillies/Giants game where he stated (in response to a sign at the game) that Ruth may have done it with beer and hot dogs, but beer was illegal for part of that time...give me a break...he came across as trying to justify Bonds' alleged steroid use as comparable to Ruth's consumption of beer...pfffttt...

The "questionable substance" Ruth used, that people thought made him a better player: Ma Gehrig's pickled eels. He ate 'em like candy. Seriously.

Anyway, that sucks about HR, and I agree that Joe Morgan (while great on the field) is only slightly more intelligent than an empty milk carton.

?

The Yanks have won every AL East title this century, as well as two American League championships. They have nine consecutive AL East championships. That's not winning "anything?"

Jeez, if they were the Atlanta Braves, you'd be calling them the team of the decade. :p

Wait a minute, I thought it was all about the rings for the Yankees - the "we play for championships" thing. Now you're touting division titles instead of World Series wins - my, the bar is certainly being lowered in the Bronx ever since Mariano blew Game 7 against the Diamondbacks.

Well, according to Mickey Mantle, it doesn't hurt if you use common sense. When asked by a teammate right after Mickey hit a homer while
apparently still intoxicated: "How in the hell did you hit that Mick"? Mantle replied: "No problem; I saw three balls and swung at the one in the middle". You can look it up!

So, thus closes the book on Reynolds at ESPN. It's John Kruk's world, we're all just living in it.

It is terribly sad. I counted on Harold Reynolds for my bedtime story every night. I'll never forget the show where he dissected Babe Ruth's swing. Genius.

As for Morgan, he may be the best 2nd basemen in the history of the game, but he is rather lackluster as an analyst.

He'll tell you twice. Because when Joe Morgan wants to make an important point and convince people, he tells them. Then he says the exact same thing again. And that makes it convincing.
