You are probably thinking of 2003. You didn't play South Carolina that year but you did beat GSU, ASU, and Furman. That Southern conference was horrible though. The weakest I think I ever say. The 2003 Citadel team was a team of two seasons. They won big the first half of the year (other than a loss to WCU), but collapsed after the loss to Wofford and faded rapidly out of contention.

I need to do some thinking on it and look over the games a little more but it's awfully hard to see them out of the top 6 or 7. Coming from nowhere doesn't help them but beating top 5 teams in consecutive weeks (and in very convincing fashion the second time) is awfully impressive. Probably the single most impressive resume in the FCS right now.

The last time The Citadel won in Boone was 1992.
The last time The Citadel beat App. State and Georgia Southern was 2003, and I can tell you both teams are better than they were that year.

From what I could tell from the online video, our kids seemed almost low key; businesslike. There was emotion on the big plays, but in the downtime they just seemed calm and determined. Our teams are always disciplined, but today it almost seems like they came in thinking they were heavy favorites to win. The last time I saw that was in 1991-1992.

Going to be honest here, I don't think the score indicates any kind of comparative difference between the two teams. ASU did not look ready to play, and that is always a coaching deficiency. I really think they looked at our history in KBH, and assumed that the GSU game was an anomaly, and then proceeded to overlook us. The win over the Griz last week didn't help.

I think, if ASU could have this game back next week they would win. Probably 8 of 10. On the other hand, that is what a GSU poster on the other board said last week, too.

At the end if the day, the difference between our team this year and last years team is maturity and discipline. We don't kill ourselves with penalties and we have been winning the turnover margin. Combine that with an ASU team that might have been looking forward to Chatty and that's a recipe for a trap game.

No need for the false modesty. A better team does not lose in this fashion at home, regardless of preparation, coaching, "lack of focus", etc.

I still don't think the score is indicative of the actual difference in the teams. In terms of personnel, these two teams are very similar to what they were last year, and yet ASU beat us at home. That is why I think the real difference in this game was preparation and confidence. ASU was not prepared, and by the time they figured things out we had 21 points and they were on their heels.

Oh, that's something else different about our team this year; we aren't slow starters like we were last year. I also attribute that to coaching.

When a team gets over 600 yards of offense I would have to say it was a complete butt kicking. Citdogs had 3 players with over 100 yards rushing and one receiver with over 100. The Citadel was by far the dominate team today. Dupree ran circles around the App defense all day. Great win for your program.

We may be riding our rank to some degree, but we didn't just fall to **** either. We had a bad game with some inexperienced players. We also did a much better job against Citadel than App, if anyone is resting on last year's achievements, it's them.

We're still a good team, we've just got some kinks to work out.
