The Big Red will pay a million bucks to the Red Wolves. This way UNL won't have to play them on the road. They paid Southern Miss 300,000 but have to play them on the road.

UNL is paying Idaho State $600,000 to come to Lincoln.

Savannah State should take a look at this.

Savannah State will be lucky to ever get more than $475,000 they got from FSU. They traveled to OSU for less than that.

I wonder how they decide how much they are going to pay out in a deal like this where they won't be paying a return visit.

Must be nice to shell out that kind of cash.

Oregon is paying TTU $500,000 for this Saturday...FYI That's the biggest payout they've received as far as I can remember.

How often does TTU play an FBS team? Once a year or does it vary? I would think that a half a million would come in handy.

Under normal circumstances it depends on what the FCS team can make on a home game vs. going on the road. Montana & App St. cost the big boys more than most as well some other FCS teams with good home attendance and ticket revenue.

Thanks for the info. I wonder how FBS teams pick opponents from FCS. When I was at the Gopher-New Hampshire game on Saturday they kept talking about the hockey connection between the two schools. I know that the Gophers have had their butts handed to them by the Dakota schools- but it brings a full house to the Twin Cities and gets a lot of local press.

For a few years there, "we" played 2 FBS'ers/year, now it's usually just the 1 (Wisconsin next year)...Many years in the 90's "we" never played any...

So since UND kicks their butt in hockey they won't schedule us in football.:D I think NDSU ruined our chances at playing Minnesota anytime soon. Thanks Bison for kicking their *** the last couple times.xthumbsupx

I read that the Goofers wouldn't play UND in any sport other than hockey (because they were both in the WCHA) because of the nickname issue. Well, that excuse won't work anymore. And Idiot Brewster said that there was no use to play the Dakota schools because he didn't recruit that area anyway (proving that he has sub-moron intelligence). At least playing Dakota schools will bring in a full house. Oh well.

I have two words for Goofer hockey- Holy Cross!

I'm trying to think of when the NCAA allowed a 12th game. That must be the reason for so many FCS-FBS matchups.

Teams that sell lots of tickets can afford to pay out the big bucks. $1,000,000 is only 50,000 tickets at $20 each. :)

TTU had always 'poor-mouthed' about a lack of funds for athletics. Regardless of his overall coaching record, Watson Brown has been overwhelmingly great for TTU, IMO. He has used his multitude of resources/contacts to garner such paydays from OR, ARK, Auburn, etc. Unbelievable transformation in facilities, equipment, etc. HE made the decision to do two things for TTU when he took the job: 1)Sign huge freshman classes each year (avoiding mass transfers and avoiding JUCO's) to try and always have large senior classes; 2) get the biggest payout games they could find, even if that meant 2 FBS games per year even in an 11-game schedule year. He's said he'll never do that again, but, did it 3 years in a row.

Sometimes it's whoever will answer the phone for the least amount of money. IE Savannah St. Sometimes it's a coaching connection (FSU playing Samford a couple years ago)
