Finally, it's time! xhurrayx xthumbsupx

I lost track of my last season's prediction record... so I'm starting another clean slate.

Predictions:
San Diego at Harvard - Crimson too strong for the Toreros.
Marist at Columbia - Won big against overrated Bryant, but lost a close one to Bucknell. Will Columbia come up short?
Princeton at Lehigh - Tigers' woes continue... against Spadola.
Brown at Holy Cross - Harvard's streak of opening against Holy Cross since 2000 ends this year but will resume in 2014. Is Brown ready for opening against the Crusaders?
Cornell at Fordham - Fordham lost a close one against Villanova... but can Cornell's offense tear up the Rams' defense like Villanova did against Fordham in the second half?
Penn at Lafayette - Lafayette escaped against W&M... but Penn can be dangerous too.
Butler at Dartmouth - hmm... Butler lost a close game against Western Illinois before opening their home slate with D-III Franklin. But well, Dartmouth lost a lot to graduation...

Did they cancel the Yale at Georgetown game?

Did they cancel the Yale at Georgetown game?

Sorry. I base my schedule off the Ivy League website and Yale-G'Town was not listed earlier.

Here's my prediction for this game now: Yale at Georgetown - when will Georgetown ever play FBS or higher FCS opponents in one or two of their first few games of each season in order to become more competitive in the PL and increase their reputation in football? Given the Hoyas' previous game performances this season, they are quite dangerous. But Yale is a young team, though.

Ah the Ivy League... our more attractive, blonde second cousin that wants nothing to do with our relation...

Interesting to see all the Ivy guys side with Penn and all the PL guys pick Lafayette. For the record, we pretty much controlled, though not dominated, WM the entire game.

Penn vs Lafayette is more than just another OOC game for both teams. Lafayette has played Penn more often than most other PL teams and Penn has played Lafayette more often than most other Ivy teams (this will be the 89th game between the two). It might not seem like it to others but it's quite a rivalry and the two schools/teams certainly treat it that way. The game will be in Easton this year and I would expect quite a nice crowd given the Pards' win over W&M (Penn plays W&M on October 6, FYI). Forecast right now is fair, dry and about 65 degrees for the 6 PM kickoff - in other words perfect for this time of year. Penn always is tough but I'm pretty confident of a Lafayette victory in this one. Penn/Lafayette games typically are close and low scoring (last year was an exception).

Of course, the rest of the Ivy views Penn as a state university out in the midwest somewhere. Talk about no respect . . . .

That's because Penn IS a state university out in the midwest somewhere. Ben Franklin State.:pxblehxxblehxxsmugxxsmugxxtroublex

So there are TWO state universities in the Ivy? They're not nearly as exclusive as I thought.

DJOM
September 9th, 2012, 09:33 PM
Ivies are more exclusive than you can imagine. I don't say that in a snobbish way, although it probably comes across like it...The admissions standards are so high, it is scary.

Now for the facts. 2012 will be the year of the Tiger. Please don't confuse the issue with an abundance of facts....Princeton is due and will rise to the occassion.

Princeton upsets Lehigh. Everything comes together for the upset of the week.
San Diego--Toreros bring a strong game. Harvard better be prepared for a well coached California offense. Pray for rain and cool temperatures.
Marist beats Columbia. Marist is team on the rise.
Yale wins at G-town
Brown wins
Fordham in big win.
Penn wins this one
Dartmouth takes this one.

The opener for the Ivys. A second or third game for all of their opponents. (Big) advantage to the opponents.

San Diego at Harvard - Cheating scandal or not this should not be close.
Marist at Columbia - I can't believe I'm picking Marist over anybody. Oh, it's Columbia. It's nobody.
Princeton at Lehigh - Tigger is the worst team in old Ivy and one of the worst in all of FCS. Over early and over often.
Brown at Holy Cross* - Holy Cross is not convincing. Brown in its first game. Coin toss.
Cornell at Fordham* - The Rams are moving up. Cornell is better than usual, but this is day one.
Penn at Lafayette* - Contrary to Bonarae's comments, the Leopards did not "escape" against W&M. They were in control all the way and the game was not as close as the score. 5 out of the last 6 primarily because of "already played a game."
Butler at Dartmouth - See Marist comments above and substitute Butler.
Yale at Georgetown* - The Hoyas are in the second and last year of their Golden Age.

*The (only) games I'd pay to see.

Sorry. When I predicted that game above (in the original post), I overlooked the quarter-by-quarter scoring of the Lafayette-W&M game. W&M, like Bryant, might be overrated (because the Tribe lost to Maryland because they choked in 4Q).

I'm revising my predictions, then:

San Diego at Harvard
Marist at Columbia
Princeton at Lehigh
Brown at Holy Cross
Yale at Georgetown
Cornell at Fordham - not sure, still a toss-up at this time. Fordham beat a bad Lock Haven team and controlled a quite bad Villanova team.
Penn at Lafayette
Butler at Dartmouth

Yale starting a freshman at QB. Could be a rough 1st half of the year unless this kid is a superstar

How about Yale’s version of quarterback controversy: Eric Williams or John Whitelaw?

After being tight-lipped throughout preseason camp, Bulldogs coach Tony Reno announced his decision on Monday going with Williams. The 6-foot-3, 192-pound freshman will be under center when the Bulldogs open their season on the road against Georgetown (2-0) on Saturday.

If I remember correctly, Walland wasn't even recruited as a QB. He was in Cozza's last recruiting class as a wide receiver/defensive back. Jack Siedlecki moved him to QB.

Columbia, no one that I can think of, but there was a guy from Cornell a couple of years ago. And that was when they were terrible. To bad he's not around now that they are supposed to be decent. I don't remember his profile name.

And Green26 is a member from Dartmouth. In fact he played on the great undefeated Dartmouth team in 1970. He is also a Montana fan and you should see him here once in a while.

Bulldogs lose two more offensive weapons before season starts

Yale is down three of its top offensive weapons, and it hasn't even played its first game yet.

Junior wide receiver Deon Randall and junior tight end Keith Coty will both miss the season with injuries. That comes in addition to the loss of Chris Smith, a two-time All-Ivy League selection. It was announced late last month that Smith would miss the season for personal reasons.

Losing both Smith and Randall really hurts since they were also their best kickoff and punt returners

Maybe it will be like the 7-0 Yale-Lehigh games a few years ago. A fake punt wins it.

It keeps getting worse for Yale. They really have no backup QB now.

Days after being beat out for Yale’s starting quarterback job, junior John Whitelaw has left the team, coach Tony Reno said Wednesday.

“He made a decision to pursue other interests,” said Reno, who met with Whitelaw Tuesday afternoon. “I liked him as a player and a person. He made a decision to leave the program and explore other things.”

What depresses me is starting two weeks later than everyone else and only having 10 games to look forward to.

And ending a sentence with a preposition.

True. xsmhx I actually joined AGS because Ralphie encouraged the posters on the IL board to join a contest here back then. Since then, because of AGS, I began to appreciate the higher-tier teams more and more... and I got sparked up by the major upsets (e.g. Appalachian State over Michigan in 2007). But the other IL board regulars don't seem to appreciate higher tier FCS teams like me. xsmhx
