Montana St might be the most overrated team right now. They are simply not very good in the trenches. This would be a terrible homecoming for Coach Ash.

Maybe...if they win. They will not be in my Top 15 regardless.

MSU is going to survive 34-24.
This is two weeks in a row they have struggled against inferior competition. They will be outside my Top 15 next week. They are going to struggle in the Big Sky.

Personally, I don't think Ash wanted to embarass the school he coached at for 19 years. He kept it close, then turned on the heat at the end to pull away.

MSU was without two of their best defensive players early, and their greenness on the OL is more of an issue than they though. They better learn quick.

Wow. Please tell me this is sarcasm or that you aren't a Princeton graduate. ;)
Also, they were losing at times....

Some teams are already starting to peak in week two. MSU has the rest of the season to get better. But hey, go ahead and drop them 15 spots after a win. The underdog role is one that this team thrives under.

MtSU lost all their credibility with me, at this point in the season, but they can earn it back with a season of hardwork.

I don't drop teams. I rank them. I had them at #9 last week, not sure about this week yet. They are 2-0 against two teams that don't mean anything.
...and for the sensitive MSU fan, I'm not sure where to put UNI. They had a close loss last week, but Wisconsin didn't look that great this week, and we beat no one 59-0. Poll voting is a process, and struggling with Drake and beating Chadron don't mean much.
But you are right, 2-0 is 2-0.

Actually its not, UNI is 0-1 and MSU is 1-0. DI games are all that matter unless you lose. Atleast thats how I feel Records should be weighted when ranking. Not to mention UNI's loss is more impressive than Montana states win atm, barely, maybe its not.

That's the game we have to play though. So many teams have only played FBS, garbage FCS teams and sub D-I teams. Minus the Bison. They're #1. LOL

Is Montana State over-rated or Drake pretty good?
DJOM
September 9th, 2012, 08:55 AM
Drake is D1AA---FCS---they play in the rough and tumble Pioneer league whose teams travel coast to coast and whose students/players are expected to actually study and obtain degrees. Their effort and score of this game surprised me. I thought Montana State would run away with it....but Drake proved the Pioneer League does belong and should be getting a bid to the playoffs.

?....but Drake proved the Pioneer League does belong and should be getting a bid to the playoffs.
That is complete BS. The season is two weeks old and we know nothing of how good Montana State is with the schedule that they have played. What we do know is that history of failure of Drake and the rest of the Pioneer league. Until these teams prove they can play on a consistent basis, I will continue assuming flukes or poor play by the better leagues.
Drake once beat Illinois State on a hail Mary and then got thrashed, in Des Moines, by 40+ by UNI.

*Big Sky win was 1941 against UND
*No Big South wins since 1972
*Only 1 CAA win since 1979, Towson in 1998
*No MVFC wins since 1978, 9 came against YSU. Most came prior to the 1960's
* Congrats on dominating the NEC?....I guess
*Haven't beating an OVC not named Austin Peay State since 1978
*If not for Fordam, no wins vs PL since 1956
* 1996 w vs Wofford, 2 80's wins over Samford, and no wins since the 1950's other than them
* 1975 W vs McNeese
Do you want me to keep going? The "best" one record wise is Drake, and 90% of those came prior to 1975.

I will add that I have no problem with the Pioneer getting their shot in the playoffs. I just hate people acting like they are solid teams with no resume, because history proves that is highly unlikely.

We lost our nose tackle to graduation, but for this game Daly and Minter were hurt in the first quarter and didn't return.

I agree that Montana State is not a top 5 team. Yes they are 2 - 0, but from what I heard listening to the game on the radio the Cat's have some execution with the secondary coverage to fix and McGhee had two INT's. He had problems with INT's last year. Looking like it will be a problem again this year. And the O-line is still developing and the d-line pass rush did not put much pressure on their QB.
The Cat's are probably a top 15 team though.
Just my two cents worth.

The Pioneer has been really bad out the gate this year. I believe as a league they have only 2 OOC DI wins against the NEC and Big South, but also have 3 Sub DI losses which more than negate the DI wins in my book. So out of 20 games played so far, they have 2 DI wins to show for it.

I agree with this assesment of the Cats. And for the record, I am not a Cat hater. I think they are a little over-rated at this point but still a solid team. This weeks game will give us a better idea where they stand.
