On Tuesday the U.S. Senate marked the 60th anniversary of pro football's permanent integration with a resolution to be presented at halftime of the Hall of Fame Game on Aug. 6. Football's re-integration (no African-Americans played in the league from 1932 to 1945) came one year before Jackie Robinson's much more recognized major league debut. Which four players are credited with being the pioneers who crossed pro football's racial divide?

I can think of Marion Motley, a great power runner with the Browns in the late forties and early fifties. Used to see him on highlight reels knocking everyone in front of him on their azzes.

I think Emlen Tunnell, of the footballl Giants was a great defensive player around the same time.

In 1946 Bill Willis and Marion Motley played for the AAFC's Cleveland Browns and Woody Strode and Kenny Washington played for the NFL's Los Angeles Rams.
