Furman hires Pinilla as defensive line coach

Furman has hired Roberto Pinilla, a former assistant at The Citadel, as defensive line coach -- part of what Furman coach Bobby Lamb earlier called a restructuring on defense for the Paladins.

Lamb said Wednesday that Pinilla served as a volunteer coach during spring practice, so he already has begun getting to know the Paladins.

Coach Pinilla made quite an impact during spring practice. He's an intense guy and he brought much needed spirit to the dline. Expect to see big improvement, of course the dline was the weakest and thinnest position on D. That's why they really didn't gel until the playoffs. Coach P will be working into the mix 4 aggressive young players including Southern Miss transfer 6-4, 290 NG Sam Wilson.
