Yes those Superbowl wounds are still open. I wouldn't want to be a referee, umpire, or official in Seattle for the next few years.
Anyone catch the Yankees-mariners game last night, and the fiasco at first base? Absolutely the worst call I have seen calling Posada safe, and this was the crew chief. I understand how hard it is to not to give homer calls in Yankee Stadium, but there really was no excuse for missing that call - it wasn't close.
Sigh. As I said, I wouldn't want to have to be on the next umpire crew in Seattle.

He was out and the umpire was in bad position to make the call. Definitely cost Seattle the game

Pretty suprised by this post. Do you watch alot of baseball games? Because I'm a Yankee fan and I'll be the first to admit that I've seen MUCH worse calls than the one last night. Was it incorrect? yes. Was it close? Yes. It took a second replay and a second angle to see that he was out. I've seen calls (both ways) that were much more obvious than last nights.

I watch a lot of baseball, and it was one of the worst - close is when the foot is on the way down to the bag, or the tag is up on the body. when the foot is coming up for the last step it isn't close. It wasn't close, and I'll bet after watching the replay even the ump will admit he blew it badly. It wasn't a judgement call, he just blew it. Badly.

I guess w'ell just disagree then. I've seen MANY calls that were much more obvious. I've seen guys almost a full step short get the call and last night was the type of bad call you see quite often.
I agree it was a blown call, I'm just saying that in the 91 Yankees games I've seen this year alone, I've seen worse calls in favor or and against the Yankees.

Maybe it a problem with umpires for Yankee games xlolx really, though, there is no excuse for missing a call when the runner is a step short, especially when the umpire has position. It would have been funny if the umpire had said the rain obstructed his view (since he was the crew leader responsible for calling a rain delay).
Listening to the game right now on XM (Yankees broadcast). There was another disputed call by the same umpire - a tag up on the body that let the Yanks tie the game. According to the announcers this was a good call, but that type of call is very difficult to make if the ball beats the runner, but the tag is high and the runner slides underneath it.
Update - Seattle wins 3-2. Randy Johnson gets the loss for the Yanks.
