What is the craziest thing you've seen a I-AA fan do at one of your games? I'm looking for any sort of nutty behavior - streaking, putting one's self in bodily danger, etc. I'm open to all sorts of craziness.
Good crazy, bad crazy, all sorts of crazy.

My bothers friend ran across the field during at time out at a home App game. Fully clothed. He got away too.
One year after the Apps beat GSU at home: Me and other fans threw the goalpost into duck pond and then everyone commenced to jumping in with our cloths still one.
After the Magic on the Mountain/Go for 2 play: we paraded the goalpost through Boone and left it on Sanford Mall which is our huge quad.

2003 in Manhattan Ks against Ks State. We were surrounded by Purple and 4 young men came and sat behind us. They had just returned from IRAQ and began telling us how much they hated Ks State. They asked about Mcneese and the team, etc. Then, the leader said, OK, if you win the game, we got the goalposts :D (and he was dead serious).
(and No, the goalposts did not come down that day :( )

When did I see this?
Few years back: 2002 I think. McNeese was beating us pretty soundly at the time.

WRONG, in 1986 Lamar Univeristy came to Huntsville one last time before they were to shut down their football program. Ray Alborn was the coach at the time and out of nowhere, the mystery fan appeared in face paint and handed the Lamar Head Coach a black rose after we had just beat them. Needless to say, a brawl began on the field between the Kats and the Cardinals and the mystery fan disappeared back into the stands. Back when I was just a young sap and my dad would take me to Delaware games, there was this guy who was always drunk out of his mind and carried a live chicken dyed blue into the games with him (and around to all the tailgates before the game). Often times round about the fourth quarter he would take his drunken self and his blue chicken down to the first row and flop himself and his bird onto the field, falling through the hedges. The cops would chase him around the field, catch him in short order, and escort him and his chicken off the field to a standing ovation. I couldn't have been more than seven years old, but I still remember that guy fairly well and remember going to games in anticipation of what he was going to do. Any other Hen fans remember the Chicken Man?

The VMI Rats are always good for a few laughs when they come to Williamsburg. They bring the entire Corps, and the rats are expected to pull some stunts.
Four years ago a few of them tried to abduct a W&M cheerleader right in front of the W&M student section. BIG MISTAKE! Their hats were taken and flung around the student section for much of the 3rd quarter.
Two years ago I spotted a W&M flag being lowered from its pole at the top of the Corps section. I alerted the cop who was with us in the opposite corner. He got on the radio and then began a hilarious sequence of police climbing towards the lowering flag....the flag going back up....the next flag over starting down....the police moving towards it....that flag going back up....and so on....and so on. Went on for much of the game.
VMI comes back this year, and I'm sure there will be more fun.

That's not uncommon when Northern teams travel South early in the year. The worst I've seen was Liam Ezekiel from Northeastern who lost it mid first quarter against W&M. He'd obviously had a big breakfast. The heat was a major factor in a Tribe win that day.

SCBH, I remember the guy with the Chicken. His name was Charley and he belonged to the old Stahl Post gang that frequented the games and partied hard. I actually traveled on a charter trip to the 1978 National Championship game in Longview Texas that he was on and he got so drunk they kicked him out of the stadium in the 1st Qtr and we were barely able to get him on the plane home after the game.

Liberal talk show host and former Bison announcer Ed Schultz had one of the funniest incidents.......
Eddie Schultz (http://www.readexiled.com/manwho.htm)
In the late eighties, Ed was doing play-by-play of a Bison football game. Somebody seated in the student section threw a whiskey bottle at the broadcast booth. Ed left the booth, descended into the crowd, and accosted the students who he felt were the culprits. Judge, jury? Yeah, right!! I like to believe that punches were thrown, but all I remember is that NDSU students were livid in their disdain for Ed after the incident. An anti-Ed campaign ensued on campus in the following days and weeks as many students wore pins that featured a caricature of Ed's bandaged face with a line through it.

Until the late 70s, the Lafayette-Lehigh game was presented with a full complement of riots. I am told that the 1959 and 1975 games (both at Taylor Stadium) were the "best." Even I was too young to attend the 1959 game, but legend has it that the Pennsylvania State Police motorcycle brigades were called in to clear the field so that the second half could be played.
I was at the 1975 game. This was the "riot to end all riots" because both schools took serious action thereafter to curb the overly exuberant (see below). The halftime entertainment consisted of hundreds of young men on the field engaged in fist fights and other violent and even amusing activities. (One rather corpulent young man in formal wear pried loose one of the foam rubber end zone markers and skipped merrily through the carnage bopping people over the head with his "weapon.") Neither band could enter the field. As the teams returned for the second half, the Bethlehem police attempted to clear the rioters using mace. They failed. After the melee sort of died down of its own accord, the football game resumed, but actually stopped at least 3 or 4 times during the second half while the players watched the "fans."
Although 1975 was a high (or low) point of this type of activity, it was certainly not unusual for the period. Any number of times, the 4th - and even the 3rd - quarter was played without goal posts. They occasionally even came down in the first half.
As I said, both schools moved to put an end to this type of activity. At Lehigh they have implemented the hated - and I believe, useless - sobriety checks which lead to long delays entering the parking lot at Goodman Stadium. In truth, the move to Goodman Stadium helped in this regard because it is more "wide open," and the crowds are less concentrated. (There was one memorable riot in the mid-90s however, where the police pulled the paddy wagon out to the 50 yard line to better load the rioters.) At Lafayette, Fisher Field was always less conducive to this type of activity. The Lafayette administration found the ultimate solution: police with dogs. Even a drunk pays attention to a snarling German Shepherd. The most amusing solution however, was Lafayette's "logical" conclusion that if they started the game at 10:00 AM, the "fans" would have less time to get inebriated. A 20-year old mind does not function the same as a stodgy old school administrator's. The students reasoned that this was not an "early Saturday" game, but rather a "late Friday." affair. They stayed up all night and got even more wasted. The school tried this early start only twice.

After the Citadel-Maryland game a few years ago, a few of us Citadel fans jumped down onto the field to talk with some of the players and coaches outside of the locker room at one end of Byrd Stadium.
While we weren't paying attention, one of my friends walked over to the Maryland locker room and walked right in while their team was still celebrating, grabbed a Maryland helmet, and walked out like nothing happened.
We hear some shouting and turn around, and there's our buddy, sprinting up the steps of the stadium towards the exit, with two cops chasing him.
When the cops were within 10 feet of him, he turned and heaved the helmet (basketball-style chest pass) at the first cop, who of course falls into the second cop, and they both fall down. Our friend got away.
It took thirty minutes of walking around the campus until our friend hissed at us from deep inside a clump of bushes. We then escorted him safely back to the car.
Too bad the game itself wasn't that fun. I think we lost 61-0.

And Carney according to a game program from 1985, the posts were down by the half in 1975.
Not true. I think both - but at least the posts at the closed end - survived until early in the 3rd. Both events - i.e., both ends - were violent and amusing.
At the "open" end, a mob of hundreds advanced on the goal posts, which were being guarded by a collection of Bethlehem's finest and some rent-a-cops. The kids would shuffle forward a couple of feet at a time and then stop. Finally they broke for the goal posts with a roar and the cops scattered. One old rent-a-cop could not get his legs to move. The kids hit both uprights at virtually the same time and separated them. The cross bar came crashing down and tragically drove the old guy into the ground. Not a pretty sight.
The cops simply threw in the towel at the other end. After the posts came down, one guy ran to the 40 yard line carrying a piece of goal post about 3 feet long. He brandished it to the home stands for their approval while the game stopped for the upcoming drama. A second reveler came running out of the mob and launched a flying tackle at the individual with the piece of goal post. The tackler had apparently never played football. He hit his target with less force than required and merely slid to the ground where he held on to an ankle. The guy with the piece of post shrugged at the home stands as if to say "What do I do now?" He then proceeded to beat the guy holding on to his ankle with the post remnant as the cops arrived to escort both from the stadium.

These are all great stories... whose coach was this McNeese? McNeese's, or someone else?
Northwestern St's coach tackled one of our cheerleaders running the flag lap after a touchdown. We had what had become a tradition in the mid-90's of the male cheerleaders relaying a lap with the McNeese flag around the field on the edge of the stands after every touchdown. That means they would have to run behind the opposing team's bench to do so. (Note: We don't have a home/visitor's side so that they were running mainly in front of McNeese fans the whole way. And the visiting team's bench is on the Westside pressbox side.)
Well, Northwestern St.'s coach, then , was Sam Goodwin (sp?). He was a good one for stunts to fire up his team. He decided that, if we scored, he wasn't letting the cheerleader run the flag behind his bench. He sent his son (I think) to stop the cheerleader but he whiffed. So, Sam tackled the cheerleader himself.
So, our whimpy administration called for an end of the flag lap tradition. The cheerleader eventually sued Sam and they settled for $10K.

We do have a fan, Andre', who sits on the Eastside, that plays Jolie Blonde on his duckcall after TD's and plays Charge on his duckcall after every McNeese first down. He also brings his accordion to the Beer Garden at baseball games and plays it there.

We do have "Helmet Head" at Hen games. Shaved head with the UD winged helmet painted on. Usually seen with a yellow T-shirt and blue horn roaming the East Side stands. While I love his passion and enthusiasm, he does go over the top at away games sometimes. 89Hen - Yeah, I first met "Helmet Head" a couple years ago in Chattanooga when he came to cheer on JMU against Montana. Great guy. I love his enthusiasm, even when visiting JMU. I may have the story wrong, but I remember talk of him screaming at the coaches and players on our sideline from the stands. It was reported that most everyone just thought he was funny, language and all.
Last year I saw him when we went to play at UD. Sadly, he was just kicked out of the stadium for some BS reason... I guess I just have a soft spot for hard core fans whose spirit elevates both the game and the atmosphere.
My personal craziest stroy has to be the freshman from JMU who drives all the way down to Chatty to catch the NC game, the first ever for JMU, and gets ripped. He made it to the hospital to get his stomach pumped and never saw a snap of the game. : smh :
I know our Dukes will find a way back to Chattanooga sooner or later, but you can't take those opportunities for granted. At least he enjoyed the tailgating I suppose...

All these stories about Lehigh-Lafayette (mostly from carney) remind why I never even considered attending Lehigh. I grew up in Bethlehem, and at that time, among most "townies," Lehigh students were considered 1st class a-holes. When I graduated from high school, those "riots" and other poor behavior was still too fresh in the minds of the locals.
Frankly, among all the people with whom I went to high school, those who attended Lehigh did so for one of 2 reasons:
1) Athletics (football, baseball, tennis, etc...)
2) Mom and/or Dad worked there and they got a free ride.
The only "crazy" thing I've ever seen was at a I-A game. A Pac-10 official threw a flag against Arizona for a phantom pass interference on 3rd and long. That set up a TD that wound up being the difference for Wazzu. I remember wishing I wasn't in the upper deck so I could hit the ref with my nearly full water bottle! xlolx
An incensed fan rushed at the official as he was leaving the field. The fan was accosted by cops before he got to the ref.

Dude, that sucks. I hate that behavior. Is it so hard to be civil? We get "road" fans in my section at Arizona games, and they run the full spectrum. There's a woman who sits next to me and brings her young kids to the games too. On more than one occasion I've had to confront a fan (sometimes a UofA fan) and "ask" them to stop the foul language.
Interesting thing I discovered: If you act confident and confront a drunken fan from the row above him (even if he's bigger), he almost always agrees to cool it. For those occasions he doesn't, the cops are a shout away! :hurray:

Wasn't there and it isn't football but the streaker running around the clay courts at Wembleton, then doing cartwheels naked in front of the Royal Box...has to be the funniest.
Had a streaker at Homecoming at App one year. Cops chase him around for 5 minutes. Boone's finest finally caught him and wrapped him in a blanket..but he got loose and started through the stands and headed toward the field again. Next time they caught him behind the stands and cracked him over the head with a billy stick. Went down like dropping a wet dish cloth.

Funniest thing I ever saw was at a Carroll College playoff game (NAIA).
A streaker from the student section takes off across the field toward the opposite corner of the field, to make his exit. His exit requires him to climb a fairly steep hill and then climb over a 10 foot iron fence. By the time he gets across the field and to the top of the hill you can tell he's tired. Must have tried to climb the fence about a dozen times. Would get about 1/2 way up and then slide back down the bars (if he'd ever made it to the top he would probably skewerd himself on the spikes). The whole time a local cop is just slowly walking over, knowing the guy wasn't going anywhere. By the time the cop made it to the streaker, the streaker had given up his escape attempt and was just sitting on the ground.
After he got taken away the student section started to pass around a hat for bail money. I heard they collected over $800.
