Elon is playing in the Maui Invitational mainland tournament (which admittedly I didn't know existed) and is actually going to host it. The other 3 teams are Colgate, Florida Atlantic, and Coppin St. Pretty big thing for Elon if you ask me. Also each of these teams will be playing 1 or 2 of the main (island) tournament teams before they head off to Maui. In Elon's case they are playing at Butler.

Pretty sure this "Mainland Tournament" is a new thing this year. Sort of a play-in to the real thing in Hawaii
Leave it to Colgate basketball to go to the Maui Invitational without actually going to Maui....

It's actually not a play-in to the main island tournament. The mainload tourney is a separate thing altogether, but the teams involved play the main tourney teams as sort of a warm-up to their tourney on the island.

Nice transfer pick-up for EIU
CHARLESTON, Ill. – Eastern Illinois men's basketball head coach Jay Spoonhour has landed another Chicago area player as former Thornton Township High School standout guard Reggie Smith has enrolled at school to play for the Panthers. Smith is transferring from UNLV and has two years of eligibility remaining.
Smith was one of the top players in the nation coming out of high school in 2010 as he was ranked 112th by Rivals.com and HoopScoopOnline.com. He was considered one of the top three players in the Chicago area in the class of 2010 finishing as a runner-up for Illinois Mr. Basketball. He earned All-State honors in 2009 and 2010 and was nominated as a McDonald's All-American entering his senior season.

D3 Crown and Presentation? Those should be 100+ point nights. Mankato played Crossroads of Rochester one night- we were actually pulling for them to score so MSU would not win by a hundred. Is there a connection with the coaches or something? I thought that you might play Mary or Minot or someone like that from D2.

I could see Bucknell stealing the crown again this year as well, they were pretty close last season. Should be 2 (3?) great battles between the Hawks and Bison

Usually, for mid-majors in general, the OOC is just one piece of the puzzle. How well the team performs conference should take the other piece. (3/4 of this, 1/4 of the former)
BTW, Harvard choked in the final seconds of the UMass game. We led 64-59 with around a minute to go, but a jumper and two 3-pointers (including the last shot of the game) did us in. xsmhx The first half of that game was a different story though, UMass dominated the majority of this half. We were only behind by 1 at the half, largely due to Siyani Chambers' role in the latter part of the first half (he played all 40 minutes of the game).
For Harvard, we still have other significant high major and top mid-major games left: St. Joe's, UConn (unfortunately staying home this spring), Cal Berkeley, St. Mary's and Memphis, all on the road.

Speaking of the Leopards, I'll be attending my first college basketball game of the 2012-2013 season when they pay a visit to College Park, MD and play Maryland on Tuesday 11/20. I'm looking forward to it for various reasons (two of which are 1) I didn't get to see Lafayette play in person last year due to a snow squall between State College and Lewisburg when I visited my brother at Penn State and we planned to see the Leopards play Bucknell and 2) I haven't seen a game at Maryland's Comcast Center yet because none of the teams I root for has played there since I moved to the DC area prior to the 2008-2009 season). Hopefully Lafayette can at least be competitive against the Terrapins.

My eyes widened when I was periodically checking the score of that game on the ESPN ScoreCenter app. Villanova never appeared to be in the game. An absolutely disgusting loss for the Wildcats.
Besides that game and St. Joe's demolition of Harvard (which was also never close based on my ESPN ScoreCenter check-ins), there were three other games of personal interest to me last night:
Maryland 83 Lafayette 74 - I attended this game at the Comcast Center, and the Leopards acquitted themselves well after getting beat by about 50 points at Kentucky and 14 points at Morehead State in their last two games; Maryland was never able to put Lafayette away (UMD had a 19 point lead fairly early in the 2nd half but LC went on a run to cut the lead to single digits and the UMD's lead stayed in the 8-13 point range pretty much the rest of the way). The Terrapins absolutely crushed the Leopards on the boards at both ends, which offset Lafayette's good 3-point shooting.
Lehigh 73 Penn 66 - Lehigh won the back end of their holiday tournament by beating the Quakers in a game that was probably a bit closer than expected. Penn is in rebuilding mode this season after graduating their by far best player from last season (and probably the last 3 or 4 seasons), Zach Rosen. Meanwhile, the Mountain Hawks have built a little momentum after their blowout losses against Baylor and Pitt earlier in the season.
LaSalle 64 Hartford 51 - The Explorers posted a nice, bounce-back win over Hartford after laying an egg against Central Connecticut State two days earlier.

Hmm. There is no consistent #1 in the IL right now. Columbia's worst loss so far this year has been to Marist, and since the upset over Villanova and an irrelevant win over Wayland Baptist (NAIA), they have lost three in a row.
Harvard's biggest question marks this year are the bench and the defense. They allowed too many offensive rebounds and paint attempts in the Fordham game, that's why the margin was not as big. (9 points)
Princeton and Harvard are still playing tough schedules, so we'll see who'll come out on top by mid-January.

We played pretty terribly also imo. UND out shot us percentage wise in pretty much every category. Defense and rebounding were the only reason for the 20 point gap. We also screwed up something like 5 fast breaks, turning them into turnovers.
I disagree that it should have been at the BSA. It should have been in late January or early February. The only issue with atmosphere and attendace is that we are in the Semifinals and no one is going to give a **** about basketball until that is over with.

Was NDSU a 14 when they played Kansas?
Yeap. If we were 32-0 going into the dance we probably would have been a 10 or 11. Winning your games makes a huge difference.

UND is at #270 with the 23rd toughest schedule. The only team in the BSC with a winning record is Weber State (#103) they could be the team to beat. NDSU sitting at #79 is the biggest threat in the SL.

NDSU plays Minnesota tonight. It would be a great win if we can pull it off.

Siyani Chambers made the GW jump shot with 3 seconds left for Harvard to beat BU, 65-64. We're off to finals with a 5-4 record. Next game is after 12 days, at Holy Cross.

I've got my NDSU basketball t-shirt on. I'm hoping that this is a much closer game than the SDSU one last Tuesday.
I can't figure out why the Golden Gophers wear white at home instead of gold like they used to do.

StonyBrook improved to 7-2 tonight beating St Francis of Brooklyn 77-61. Next game after finals is Tuesday 12/18 at Sacred Heart Univ. This is the 2nd meeting this season for both teams. Sacred Heart beat us 64-62 in November at SBU.

Goophs put on that run and hit those threes. All of those turnovers for the Bison are killing them, especially when they end up as 360 dunks. NDSU can still get back into this if they can protect the ball.

I didn't notice. Sucked that Felt litterally had the worst game of his life which had nothing to do with the gopher D, and that the gophers were so hot from 3. If felt made his average instead of 0% it would have been something like 67-70. Oh well, thats basketball.
