Montana has 5, that's the most ever. And we have one walk on HS QB from Minnesota. Some Griz fans feel we are spending too many full rides on QB's as some of these guys won't see the field much. One Griz fan said "What do the Coaches think we are I-A?".
QB's on full Scholarship
Sr. Josh Swogger 6'5" 245
Sr. Jason Washington 6'2" 195
So. Cole Bergquist 6'2" 192
RsFr. Clint Stapp 6'3" 215
Fr. Andrew Selle 6'2" 205 (will redshirt in 2006)

Zero.
OK, just had to go there!
In 'PL terms', we have a logjam after being thin since 2004. 6 quarterbacks are in the mix.
Mike Saraceno - Sr. (5th year)
Lee Sloan - Jr. (seen PT, got the UMass win last year by not making too many mistakes!)
Anthony Fucillo - Soph (saw mop up time last year)
Alex Relph - Soph
Dan Pitcher - (medical) redshirt frosh
Ryan Meyers - Tulane transfer with 4 years of eligiblity
Fans love to speculate, but it looks like after Saraceno it's going to come down to Pitcher vs. Meyers as #2 and heir apparent. Pitcher's got the brains, is decent all around and can scramble. Meyers might be a gunslinger of the likes Biddle has never really had. It will be interesting to see what happens. Sloan's not really shined, but he really hasn't had a ton of chances either. He's a wild card.

Well... maybe one.. Brad Mauer. He is a Marquis Scholar, our highest academic scholarship. Minimum award is $12,500, need blind, and the rest beyond that is up to the school.. with the potential of covering entire tuition.

Meyers makes me nervous, especially what I have heard in the offseason. Add him, Scott, a solid WR, and good defense, you have Colgate '03 again.. argh.

Based on the Spring Game Roster
Mark Fontenot - Soph
Derrick Fourroux - Fr RS
Bart Crader - Fr RS
Beau Lasseigne - Soph
There were no QB's in the 2006 recruiting class so unless there is a transfer in the works these are our 2006 leaders.

solid WR - Patrick Simonds. check.
good defense - Tupta (LB), Marshall (LB), Ashton (LB), Hadley (LB), Moten (DB), Idah (DB), the d line we just brought in... check.
You forget an offensive line that will have probably played/started for 2-4 years too.
Yes, we're very excited about the next few years!

I am aware of that, but 'gate has to show it on the field the coming years.

Actually 2 of them are RS Soph and one is a RS frosh, plus an incoming true frosh. There were 4 other RS frosh QB's, but 3 transferred after the fall season and one supposedly is going somewhere else this fall.
My quess is the three RS will stay.

We normally have 3 on a full ride and maybe one or two on partial.

Kats have 4 on roster......
Noah Allen..........6-3,228 Sr
Philip Daugherty...6-3,222 Jr
Wade Pate..........6-2,219 Jr
Brett Hicks..........6-4,191 Jr
With one senior this year and 3 seniors next year, look for us to recruit two and probably have transfers banging down our door.

looks like we have 4. Not exactly sure if all 4 are on full rides, but I would guess so as all of these guys were heavily recruited out of high school. Also, there wasn't ANY QB recruits in this year's class.
Jr. Steve Walker 6-1 207
So. Ryan Parsons 6-1 198
RFr. Nick Mertens 6-0 229
R.Fr. Mitch Brecke 5-10 161

Appguy..
Our players don't usually transfer, they just become students at Drake.
Only Players who need academic scholarships transfer... (See UNI Transfer post)
EKU05
July 13th, 2006, 11:06 AM
I'm not totally sure about the current number, but I do know this...
In 2004 EKU went into the season with a pre-season All-American QB in Matt Guice. He ended up missing most of his senior year with injuries, and when it came time to replace him Adam Ellis (once considered the QB of the future at LOUISVILLE) was also hurt. The third string guy had a minor injury...so our starting QB for most of the season was pre-season #4 Freshman Josh Greco.........who as a sophomore was the OVC offensive player of the year.
My point being that having a few extra QBs can really save you...lol.
