This is a great pick up for the Sam Houston baseball program. This guy is a proven winner.

No joke! :hurray:
Mark Johnson, who directed Texas A&M to two NCAA College World Series appearances and a record of 876 victories, 433 losses, and three ties in 19 years as Aggie head coach, is the new baseball coach at Sam Houston State University, Bearkat Director of Athletics Bobby Williams announced Thursday.

Very interested to see how Johnson does as the helm of the once-successful Bearkat baseball program...
Hopefully Johnson has quite a share of contacts left over to help bring in some continued financial support for our athletic department!

well it will be very interesting to say the least. Especially with at least 7 players leaving the A&M program, wonder how many if any end up in Huntsville now that Johnson is at the helm. I think it is instant success for 2007.:hurray:

With the way the A&M program has been the past couple of years, that might not be a good thing. Congrats on the hire of MJ. With a new coach and the new facility, if you can't make the tournament now, you might as well drop the program : smh :

Well, a lot of the players the last couple of years were Johnson's recruits. I think A&M is going to regret they ever let him go.
Their loss is our gain.

On teams that finished 25-30-1 in 2006 and 30-25-1 in 2005 (not to mention a combined 15-38-1 in Big 12 play).
The hiring of MJ is a big boost for the baseball program and should help getting the Kats to the SLC Tournament. But how long is he planning on staying around (3-4 years tops at his age). :twocents:
