You mean:

Step 3 - have the best football facilities in the Dakotas

And since facilities are the prime mover of a football program (they attract top players and coaches, which brings wins, which brings fans and money into the program, etc. etc.):

Step 4 - become the dominant program in the Dakotas.

already are.

Boy, if I'm a FCS level player from the Mpls area - it's four hours out to Fargo, four hours out to Brookings, both places are freezing cold in the winter during the time the visit is taking place. Coach at SDSU takes me to a gleaming, beautiful new building, an actual structure, while the coach at NDSU takes me to an inflated tarp...

I find it hard to believe that applies to many things that college undergrads would want and can afford in their free time during the school year. Especially since we're talking about something that Sioux Falls or Fargo would have that Brookings doesn't. I'm guessing Brookings has a movie theater. What else are we talking about here? Hanging out at the mall?

Well NDSU can show their recruits 11 national title trophies and SDSU can show them buildings.

Really I think NDSU would be better off spending its money upgrading the locker room and building some kind of players lounge if they want to wow recruits with facilities. A bubble or a IPF is just a big indoor area to practice in.

That is a good point.

But usually - and I would advocate for this if there were, say a big donation check coming in - when you're talking about an IPF being built you're also talking about a centralized command & training center for football (and sometimes other sports) being built.

Look at the following as examples:

http://www.niuhuskies.com/facilities/yc.html
http://www.utahstateaggies.com/school-bio/ust-off-field.html

I'm not sure where exactly such a thing would be constructed, but possibly where the tennis courts are now, just to the west of Dacotah field (as if the new facility would be the end zone facility for that field).

Actually, the NDSU coach will take you to the dome which is the #1 practice spot. The bubble is a plan B. They will take the track recruits to the dedicated indoor track facility. They will bring the basketball recruits to the new Sanford Health Athletic Complex. Not sure why you have to ruin a Jacks thread with douche bag comments

The Fargodome is not a practice facility for NDSU athletics. It's a city-owned events center.

NDSU pays rent to the Fargodome for every use of the main floor (in addition to the yearly rent they pay for occupying some areas of the dome year round, like the coach's offices).

Now the bubble facility will allow NDSU to stop paying money to the Fargodome for practices during the regular season and it can have every spring practice in the bubble (other than the spring game). Also, softball and baseball won't need to practice in the BSA and hopefully softball games can be held inside the bubble too, early in the season.

AD Justin Sell says the SJAC will house an 8 lane, 300 meter track, 100 yards of artificial turf, 2 pole vault lanes on one end, and finally 2 long jump/triple jump lanes on the other end equating to ~172 yards long x ~94 yards wide = ~147,500 square feet. There will also be seating for ~1,100 people. Terry then goes on to quote the contractor on it being the largest facility of its kind in the country.

Thank you, appreciate the reply. Yes I did hear that part as well.

He must mean that it is the largest 300m indoor track facility in the country, of which there are only a handful and so I don't doubt such a claim given the unique dimensions of the plan to accommodate the T&F runways on the sides of the track.

Continue beating USD, several runs to the semis and a championship game appearance, beat NDSU more often, and home games early more often than late with the big games such as USD UNI and NDSU in the last half home games. Really no real idea though since a lot of people figure there have been a lot of people turned off from going due to lack of seat availability, so will have to see what happens when its finished. But thats just my guess.

It looks like a great facility. I was surprised to see that it was being called the largest... because the football field is only 80 yards from goal line to goal line. I thought that I had seen others that were 100 yards from goal line to goal line. None the less incredible facility it should really help with the track programs. I remember running in Brookings for TF and the track was pretty bad. Have they replaced the outdoor track recently. If so, they would have the best facilities for track in the Dakotas

Awesome!

Question though: wasn't a new weight room included in the Dykhouse facility (the end-zone facility that has been completed for some time now)?

I'm assuming this new weight room is part of the Stanford IPF that is being constructed.

EDIT: I guess to answer my own question, the Dykhouse floor plans definitely included a weight room and for that matter it also included a training room. (http://www.gojacks.com//pdf4/383729.pdf).

So obviously those spaces are going to be renovated in the Dykhouse facility. It would be cool to see some updated floor plans for the Dykhouse!

Code still requires a certain amount of space per seat. You likely won't add many, if any.

I know part of the issue with redoing the seat backs at UNI is if a certain step is done the new seats have to meet new codes, and we would lose a decent number of seats, being that we were grandfathered in.

There is a lot of room in those seats, not to mention the arm rests. Scale that up by a few thousand seats and you'd see a net increase.

When Iowa reseated everyone after the big renovation they added a couple of inches to every seat and the lost a could of thousand seats. But they negated that loss with club seats and the sky boxes. Before they added inches to the seats you litteraly had to almost sit sideways in your seat. I remember a few games where people with tickets couldnt get to there seats because there was no room for them to sit. Now I always order the chair backs. Easier on your butt and back plus nobody can encroach on your space.
