Quality will remain to be seen, but Lehigh finally landed its first seven foot basketball recruit who was also being recruited by Illinois and Oklahoma State. He is John Gourlay, 7'0" 250lbs. from Hot Springs Village, Ark. Coach Bill Taylor expects Gourlay to contribute immediately and give assistance to rising Jr. Jason Mgreboff who is 6'10" and 260lbs. Gourlay was two-time all-state in Arkansas and also posted a 4.0 gpa.
Lehigh has lived and died over recent years with sharpshooters and lack of a strong inside game. This should now change.
Other recruits: Phillip Anderson 6'8" from La Canada, CA (first team allstar from St. Gabrielle Valley); 6'5" Greg Page from Quebec (only one of two high school invites to the Adidas All-Canada All-Star Game;and Matt Szalachowski of Allentown via Blair Academy (NJ). Lehigh loses only two seniors from last year's team that lost in overtime to Holy Cross in the PL semifinals, so PL maybe making more noise in the NCAA down the road.

What caught my attention with this guy is the 250 lbs. A lot of 7 footers not playing at a school in a major conference at stick figures and often get pushed around by shorter by stronger post players. At 7 foot and 250 pounds this guy already has the frame to work off of. Add some bulk and work on foot speed and mobility and you have a big time post player. Next year should be a great year for PL hoops, they have 3 legit top 100 teams in Bucknell, Holy Cross and Lehigh. I fully expect 2 if not 3 teams to be playing in a postseason tourney, NCAA and NIT.
