Andrea Bargnani is one of the favorites to be the top pick (by the Raptors) in tonight's NBA draft. Bargnani, who played for Italy's Benetton Treviso, would become the first player from the European basketball system to be taken with the first pick. Who is the highest drafted European player to date?

Darko Millic 2002? Waste of a pick... choosing European players still makes me angry... has anybody ever seen that 7'0 goon Russian play that was drafted two years go? Um, no...

Answer:
Darko Milicic from Serbia & Montenegro was taken second in the 2003 draft after LeBron James. Pau Gasol is next on the list, (third by the Grizzlies in 2001).
