Other than that ugly sweep to the Cardinals, my Cubbies have been on a roll since Anthony Rizzo was called up. (I still can't believe that 7th inning of game 2 actually happened). I wish the Dempster/Garza trade fiasco would come to an end so that I know where the team will stand within the next week. Gotta get those prospects!

On a side note, I am pulling for the Buccos to reverse two decades of history. And McCutchen has a fair shot at a Triple Crown, though I think he will fall short in the HRs category (and probably RBI's too)

Your not American if you don't have a soft spot in your heart for the Cubs xthumbsupx The CC's pitching staff is solid. I know they shut down the Pirates. AM is a gem of a ball player. Sadly he'll probablly end up as a Yankee, Sox or some other big $$ organization. He's only getting $706K in Pittsburgh right now xoopsx

Cubs have been on the move this past evening. Traded catcher Geovany Soto and cash to the Rangers for a minor league pitcher, and SP Paul Maholm and OF Reed Johnson to the Braves for their #2 prospect (who was out this season with Tommy John's) and another minor league pitcher. Of course there are still rumors of Garza being traded, as well as Dempster and Soriano (potentially together in a deal to the Dodgers).

Among the three that got traded last night, the one I'll miss the most would be Reed Johnson. He was a fan favorite in Chicago and was a reliable backup outfielder (and exciting one to watch at that)

Can't explain how much I agree with you on the Reed Johnson thing - he's been my favorite for years. The guy hustles every single play and legitimately looks like he's having fun out there (without showing off.)

Vizcaino is a good pitcher, and a nice get for the Cubs. I might compare him a bit to Neftali Feliz or Jeff Smardjia (sp) when he's on. A guy that could be a pretty decent major league starter, but also can act as a pretty high leverage late inning power arm. Jaye Chapman has been in the Braves system forever -- he's more or less a throw in.

I think the deal is a good one between the two clubs. Atlanta fills their two weak spots and Chicago gets a power arm with upside.

I agree, Reed was a great cub. I'm glad he went to the Braves and that Soto went to the Rangers. I think Maholm was very solid. But at this point we have put all our eggs in Theo's basket. I'm excited to see what he can do... it cant get much worse at this point.

Side note, does anybody else notice that when ESPN is showing highlights of people there is always at least one agiainst the Cubs. I swear they could be showing Evan Longoria highlights and bingo there he is blasting a HR off some poor cubby. I think the highlight editor is a Cardinal fan!

I was kind of bummed to see Maholm go as well, considering he was putting it all together over the past month or so, but it's better to have short term loss for long term gain. Even though it would not have been smart, a part of me wanted to see no one get traded because it looked like the team could play themselves back to within .500 mark. Ever since the team was 24-48 (a couple of days before they called up Rizzo), they have played 19-10, which certainly makes me feel optimistic. But once again, short team loss for the long term gain.

Dempster to the Rangers. Not sure who they got for him. I am sort of a quasi Ranger fan anyways from the couple of years I spent in Dallas so agian I'm happy for the guys that got traded. I like the way they play the game and I really like the possiblity of Nelson Cruz going the Marlon Byrd, Milton Bradly route and becoming a Cub in the future!

The only thing worse than the Astros major league team is their farm system.

Nice stadium but still not saying much about the baseball talent in Houston.
