Looks like UTSA and may be having some trouble coming to an agreement on future games.

Reading between the lines, I’m starting to think that the prospects are not that good for a long-term football contract between Texas State and UTSA.

At least, not in the immediate future.

Texas State has made it clear that it wants the game played at its home field in San Marcos every other year.

UTSA has proposed playing it every year in San Antonio at the Alamodome, with Texas State getting the ’home team’ financial terms every other season.

They'd fill the Alamodome for that game. UTSA makes a point, plus the driving distance between the two kinda negates the home game atmosphere.

Yeah, I can see that and it should be thought out as to what can bring the most money and profile for the game. Probably a lot easier to have TV interest in that location as well.

I mean Bobcat Stadium is getting nicer..but how are you going to pass having 60k at a game?

Dumb decision by Texas State if they pass this up.

Not like that would be their first one.

They need to take a knee and think about that one for a while....

Even more Texas St. issues.

Take it from someone who's school did that. Southern moved their home games with Jackson State to Jackson for a couple years. (That's a guaranteed 30-40K crowd on an average year) Even getting an 80/20 split on money and it went over like a lead balloon. I'm glad they wised up and went home and home again.

I and the strong majority of Texas St fans want the game in San Marcos. Its not about the money. Its about having that game in your stadium and not playing in their stadium where the end zones and banners will make it look like a UTSA home game. Also it would give Texas St season ticket holders one less home game (more importantly the suite and club seat owners).

Yes, that's easy to see slyster. But is that a selfish reason considering that it doesn't help the program, the notoriety of possible TV, and so forth?

haha I think I put that as my sig back in the Ralph days. No I get the positives of playing at the Alamodome if we could sell it out. I mean look at the numbers SHSU/SFA get now that they play in Houston. Its pretty much doubled. But I think the difference is playing at a neutral site instead of one of the teams fields. Is there a rivalry game that is played at only one teams stadium? Just seems like we are losing something even if we could make twice as much money.

I get it and all but that is something that pride does right? It ****s with you in spite of what is probably in your best interest especially since your Ath. Dept. is gonna need to make hay while anyplace it can.

Just sayin', seems like y'all might be cutting the nose to spite the face here.

This is definitely a language alert for those that were too dumb to see this one coming.

Not sure we will have to worry about it after this season, UTSA has a pretty future OOC lined up. I hope we play them because it'll be a fun and intense rivalry and once we go to the Sunbelt we won't have one.

Agree with you slycat, it shouldn't be about $$$, but the principle of not having to play a "home" game in their (albeit) larger stadium.

Totally agree. Sometimes you have to have been in a situation to truly understand it.
