The Phillies' ace pitcher allegedly punched his wife in the face during an argument in downtown Boston late last night. Myers was arrested, and there were at least 3 eyewitnesses. As if the Phillies don't have enough problems: now spousal abuse??: smh : : smh :

Wow...could be considered the classic abuse case. Guy frustrated at work. Can't take it out on boss, so does on his wife/kids...Unfortunately in my line of work, I've seen a lot of that come through the office door...:(

Reported tonight that Myers will pitch tomorrow against Curt Schilling, he mentor while Schill was with the Phils. Will be interesting to see how Myers handles himself, especially since I would expect the Boston crowd to be on him pretty good. Myers has never shown himself to handle adversity very well, so it could be an interesting show...

Really bush league of the Phillies to allow him to pitch.

His wife bailed him out. That makes me question how legit the charge is.

If I recall correctly, Massachusetts law doesn't require the wife to press charges. Wil Cordero was arrested in Cambridge in '97 and I recall reading that in the paper...
He might have smacked her or might not have. It could have been "perceived" as an assault by witnesses, who knows.
What concerns me is that the Phillies pitching staff is now just one more "Assault & Battery" charge away from putting the team in the cellar.

Well, Myers didn't get shelled, but he only lasted 5 innings throwing about 110 pitches. Left losing 3-2. Phils rallied to tie it in the 7th, but blew several opportunities to blow the game open leaving tons of RISP's. Boston wins in the 10th, on an Ortiz walk-off home run....Geary, Cormier, Rhodes and Franklin shut down the Sawks through the 9th. Gordon blows it in the 10th. Primary culprit, IMO, though was Phillies bats leaving too many runners on the pond. Burrell is horrendous. Now batting .045 with RISP and 2 out. Looked totally clueless striking out with the bags loaded in the 9th.

That game was a microcosm of the Phils' whole sorry season. They had umpteen chances to win that game, but the RISP bug chomped them in the azz again.: smh :

The Phils finally announced that Myers will be off for a few weeks for "personal reasons." That's typical of one of the worst-managed (and not just on the field) organizations in major league baseball. A disgraceful performance from Montgomery on down.:nonono2:

SI writer Phil Taylor does a pretty good job of ripping the Phillies about the Myers situation:
Never let it be said that the Philadelphia Phillies are a model organization. Not after the way they botched the situation after pitcher Brett Myers was arrested for allegedly assaulting his wife, Kim, last week.
Phillies manager Charlie Manuel callously trotted Myers out for his next start, one day after the incident, with the explanation that it was in the best interests of the ball club. Myers, for his part, said that his main regret was not that the arrest took place, but that it went public. Ladies and gentlemen, your Philadelphia Phillies. Quite the humanitarians, aren't they?....
