F Him!
He went on PTI and said the PK on Onyewu was legit. Not only that but said he would be open to playing for Ghana in 2010.
Says he wants to play abroad next year, but he isn't even dominant in MLS. This dude needs to buy a clue with some of that Nike money.

Just a young guy who needs to grow up and get some maturity. I can't imagine that Nike would want him playing for Ghana. And don't think that Nike won't have a big say in where he ends up. I think the US screwed up by not having him on the roster to gain some valuable experience. It wasn't like they played everyone on their 23-man roster. A lot of teams have done that in the past with young, talented players.

Funny - I was partially watching that interview on PTI and I must have missed the more saucy parts - not saying he didn't say it (I'm sure he did) but I missed it myself - oops. But hey, I thought he was also being somewhat diplomatic - he still has family in Ghana and will always be a native Ghananian (I made up that adjective). Can he even play for them now? I thought once you choose a nation to play for you can't change it and he already has caps for the US (at least on the youth teams). Frankly, he's being a bit clamped up where he is - he can't get the playing time he needs and I don't think MLS is really the place for him - he needs to get over to Europe and be on the field as much as possible if he's going to get anywhere near his potential. The handling of him so far in MLS has been less than encouraging.

You are still eligible to play for any team until you play a full international for a particular side. Then you are locked in. Friendlies don't count. A few years ago, Thomas Dooley (one of my favorite American players on the 1994 team) was called up to the German team, but got injured, didn't play and thus was still eligible to play for the US (his father was an American).

I'm pretty sure Adu is being diplomatic by saying he'd be open to playing for Ghana. The guy is making a lot of money because people think he's going to be the best U.S. player, which is doubtful in my opinion, though he could end up being a good one. He'll be on the roster for the U.S. in 2010.

Dubya wants to know if there's a chance that the Ghananians will play the Brazillions, if they can get by the Grecians!:D
