I've always been a fan of having a single, strong logo for any company/school. I was very excited when I learned that ASU was fazing out the awful "Yosef head fading into the mountains" logo that looks like Davy Jones.

I didn't have any problem with the rebranding they did in '99 that brought the more graphically intense logos and I really did like the new bison head secondary logo but it just seems like they just cartooned it up for no reason. I definitely hate that last one. Wow.

Generic? It's elegant in its simplicity. Very strong logo. How much experience do you have in marketing? Standing out in front of your subway with a sign doesn't count.

I assume you feel your little choo choo cartoon logo is FAR superior. xlolx

I personally LOVE our colors, mascot and, until now, branding. I'm clearly biased but I think they are among the best in the country. This is just a mess.

I've always been a fan of simple. Furman's hypercycloid (don't call me a diamond) has always been a favorite of mine. Simple lines and a block F that has been relatively unchanged for 35 years.

I like App's block A, but I have never liked the comic sans-esque "Mountaineers" written inside.

Simply, classic logo that's always been around. Now primarily used by the band

The Power C is much better than the wishbone C. Chattanooga had to retire the Indian Theme in the late 90's, but wanted to retain the "Mocs" and there aren't any schools with a snake logo that aren't HBCUs. We had an identity crisis for a few years, but Rick Hart gets it.... The Power C is OURS, not a Chicago Bears Logo in Yellow like most people think my wishbone C hat is. I was greatly opposed to the changes, but I'll be the first to admit I was WRONG. It took a few years to get it right, but Our Mocs Logos Represent the school and City very well.

The Blue Hen has evolved over time:

1950-1992:

1993-2008:

2003 - (still current):
http://content.sportslogos.net/logos/31/657/full/8shlr22sp9rygf4kjdxthftxd.gif

I prefer the full body hen and the '92-'08 #1 Hen to the current angry face.

The helmet in the uniform used to be a darker shade of blue from the rest of it, it was lightened to match the rest of the uniform in '04:
pre-2004:

2004- (current)
http://content.sportslogos.net/logos/31/657/full/5195.gif

The same thing has been happening to the interlocking UD logo and official name typeface, it used to be darker blue and gold trimmed:
http://msfhq.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/Delaware-Logo.jpg
http://udel.edu/~dchang/files/pic/InterlockingUD2C.jpg

Newer versions are going to a lighter shade of blue and eliminating the gold outline:

http://www.it.udel.edu/sites/www.it.udel.edu/files/imagecache/news-image-full/newsimages/InterlockingUD1Cweb.jpg

Personally, I prefer the stuff from when I was a student to the newer simpler designs, but that's probably true for most people, they like what was around when they were in the thick of it.

I had a "UD" Delaware logo drawn up once. It was where the D was horizontally aligned with the U and the U had a curve on the lower left corner and a right angle on the lower right corner and the D connected on the U's upper right hand corner and curved on the side met up just short of the bottom right corner of the U. It was basically just a bent and curved line. It looks pretty cool, and is very simple and elegant. It's literally something you can make by bending a paper clip. Just draw in the air a U with a straight right side and a D curve sprouting out of it. It's a very simple, elegant and recognizable design.

I'm assuming you mean DI, right? Because Florida Southern is the Moccasins and they arent a HBCU.

since everyone else is doing it.

Academic logo,

modeled after

however, our degrees have an old school logo/crest that is the same as on the original archway from 1863 (but can't find an image of it)

I was thinking DI, but I will be corrected, since I didn't clarify.....There is One.

So what's this stupid "emo hair" thing?

All they did was took the existing "head logo" and simplified all the detailed lines. It's the same thing.

Exactly! The problem with NDSU's logo(s) have always been that they're too detailed. Such details do not show up well on the side of helmet ot the front of a jersey. They just appear to be a unidentifiable blob.

Personally, I'd rather see further simplification. Perhaps something closer to the Bills logo.

The print version is kind of lame because of the colors. I've got some Nike stuff with this logo on it and it looks fantastic with better color.

I've got some clothing with the new logo, but I still prefer the older ones. The new one just looks too generic. I have one shirt that just has the new eagle head without the "Georgia Southern" text. You wouldn't know it has anything to do with the school if I wasn't wearing it on campus.

They are an improvement I think.

Per NDSU athletics facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/NDBison

As NDSU's athletic teams continue to compete on a national stage, the need to streamline the athletic identity has become a priority. NDSU athletics, along with the Licensing Resource Group, NDSU's trademark management company, worked to update the athletic identity package so that it would translate more consistently with the demands placed on logo identities without compromising the brand's rich history and tradition. As branding and technology advances, so too does the environment in which collegiate brands exist. Several factors play a role when it comes to maintaining a successful brand. Not only does the identity apply to traditional print, but to various methods of embellishing licensed products and electronic applications such as smart phones and tablets. The goal of this project was not to suggest that there was a problem that needed to be fixed, but rather further strengthen a successful brand so that it can continue to be one of the more recognizable brands in the industry.

NDSU has some of the most passionate, die-hard fans in all of college athletics. But with that comes a responsibility to represent ourselves in a manner consistent with our image. The spirited feedback we have received from Bison Nation in response to the updated logos has been heard, and we will be making some slight modifications to return some of the details inside the logos that are important to Bison fans. This allows us to stay current with industry trends and technology so that our brand looks and stays clean, strong, and modern in all applications.

Thank you for your input and your loyalty to Bison Athletics.

I saw that.

Ultimately, I understand what they were doing. Ditching the alternate colors (brown, black/white) for a solid Yellow and Green. I also see what they did with the Bison head logo. They took a step back from the 2006 alternate logo and instead took the same concept and applied it to the original design.

After considering some of those things, I cooled off a little and understand. What I don't understand is why they think there would be any "confusion" on the national stage. I mean, how many other teams use a bright yellow Bison head logo for ANYTHING?

Do the Sabers still use the yellow buffaslug?
