Athletics Facilities Enhancement Construction Underway

BOONE, N.C. -- Construction for Appalachian State University’s $32 million athletics facilities enhancement plan is underway, with the most visible progress to date taking place on Wednesday at Kidd Brewer Stadium.

Construction crews demolished KBS’s west ticket booth on Wednesday morning, which will make way for more gates in an effort to help Appalachian’s sellout crowds move in and out of the stadium more quickly and easily. On the east side of the stadium, the old east ticket booth has also been demolished and trees and fences have been removed to make way for the new stadium plaza.

The stadium plaza will include a new 12-bay ticket booth on the east side of Owens Field House and should move the ticket-buying and pick-up congestion away from the main gates on the east and west sides of KBS, helping eliminate long lines at the gates for fans with tickets already in hand.

Another aspect of the facilities enhancement plan that is already in place is a new staircase that allows fans to directly access KBS from the popular Greenwood Lot tailgating zone. With the steps, fans that park in the Greenwood Lot will have a much more direct and safer walk to and from the stadium.

Site preparation has also now begun on one of the crown jewels of the facilities enhancement plan, the new 2,000-seat baseball stadium behind the Broyhill Inn. In many ways, the baseball stadium is the key to getting the ball rolling on the most major construction projects of the facilities plan. Once the ballpark is in place, work can begin on the new indoor practice facility, softball stadium, track and field throws area and parking lot for the new Kidd Brewer Stadium athletics complex, which will all be constructed at the site of the current baseball facility above KBS.
