I think Brady Attaway is going to be the top one in the SLC. Brian Bell from SHSU should have a good year, but their offensive weapons are Tim "Hi-diddley ho" Flanders and Richard Sincere.

My list looked pretty similar to that, I also had on there Brady Attaway from SFA, and Kyle Essington of Stony Brook as players to watch.

I think Hess will win the Payton, but not this year. Also think Sumner of SDSU has a bright future.

Always helps to set up the play action when you have a good rushing attack/threat, and doesn't hurt to have that good WR deep threat either.

The MVFC QB's on that list are will make this season interesting for sure! Especially if Hess can perform well again for YSU, they should be as advertised.

Attaway will pile up the #'s in the SLC. Hard for Bell to get any National pub when he's handing it off 30 times & splitting snaps (albeit only 8-10 per game) with Sincere. Should still have a good yr though...

Brian Bell has to learn to toughen up a little bit. He went down way too easily way too many times in the NC game.

Yes, it was a very tough pass rush but he was halfway on the ground before the defender got to him most of the time.

I do believe he is a rising sophomore. He played during the UTC/GSU game and was incredible. I think at the time, he was the 3rd stringer too. He will be sick come the next 3 seasons.

Honestly, I'm not sure. I've HEARD that he may be, but not sure. I'm sure some Chatty posters could confirm or deny this. Either way, he is on the team and I saw him play GSU when he was a freshman. He worries me.

What a lame argument. A freshman QB gets thrown into the fire without hardly any reps in practice and the excuse is that their defense didn't prepare for him. Maybe that was part of it, but don't you think he might have the potential to be pretty good. He is clearly an outstanding athlete and if he wins the job he could be a great player this year.

What makes a "top QB"?

Is it the guy who throws the ball 70 times a game in a chuck'n'duck system? Or is it the QB who manages the game in a ground-oriented, pro-style offense, calls audibles when appropriate, makes the right decision, doesn't turn the ball over, makes the tough 3rd down throw when needed, etc.?

Obviously the latter.

I think UND's Braden Hanson could be one of the top QB's. He has 1 year left of eligibility and is a transfer from the University of North Carolina where he was a backup. UND is pretty solid at running the ball so a solid QB is all that could be missing from UND being able to put a lot of points on the board.

http://siouxfb.areavoices.com/2012/01/09/qb-transfer-braden-hanson/

Hanson, 6’6″ - 215, is a tall, lanky lefty who appears to be strictly a pocket passer with the mobility to move around if needed. North Carolina ran a west coast type of offense the past couple years meaning Hanson should be fine operating under center and executing the play-action game. His height will be a definite advantage in the passing game as he will be able to survey the field easier.

With the Sioux offensive line and wide receiver talent improving greatly the past few seasons, we can’t help but think that adding Hanson could be the piece that helps this offense become more of a consistent force this next fall. They have shown they want to commit to the power running game and play-action passing. Inconsistency at QB plagued them in 2011 and they were still able to pull out a 8-3 record and a GWC Championship. Hopefully, Hanson will be the guy to bring it all together.

I didn't see any broken tackles there. He either wasn't touched at all or he got tackled and fell into the end zone...

And I never said he wasn't good, but when a defense is expecting a prostyle offense and then a guy starts running read options and draws almost exclusively...

Robinson was 5/9 for 62 yds, 0 TDs, 1 INT in the game against us. He did everything with his legs, partly due to his athleticism and partly because we weren't prepared for it.

As mentioned in the TSN article,

It's worth noting former SMU quarterback Kyle Padron is expected to enroll at Eastern Washington and win the No. 1 job after the Eagles lost 2011 Walter Payton Award winner Bo Levi Mitchell. Ironically, Padron replaced Mitchell as SMU's starter in 2009, prompting Mitchell to transfer to EWU. Padron could become one of the top quarterbacks in the FCS.

FWIW, he's a much better QB than Bo Levi, IMO. Much less prone to mis reads or force a throw resulting in INTs. Also fairly mobile for a 6'4 233lb QB. He'll also probably be asked to throw a ton as well, since our run game still isn't looking too good.

Stats at SMU:
Padron: 446/709 (63%) 41TDs/21INTs, 5902 yds, 7 rushing TDs
Bo Levi: 385/676 (57%) 36TDs/33INTs, 4590yds, 2 rushing TDs

That should make it easy on the defense. If a guy dives through your arm tackle into the end zone from 3 yards out that is a missed tackle. There are several plays not shown where he went right up the middle and made tacklers miss. He's good at not letting guys get a good shot in on him, not necessarily running over people. He's very smooth. Also if jumping in the middle of the game should have handicapped anyone it would be him. That might explain the passing numbers.

Must be a coaching or player connection.

Is he transferring there just because he knew BLM went there?

Must be a coaching or player connection.

2009: Middle of the season, BLM gets hurt, Padron steps in and plays lights out, leads SMU to Sheraton Hawaii Bowl and stomps Nevada. Starting job his, BLM transfers to EWU (EWU recruited him out of HS).

2010: Starts all year, throws for 3,800+ (SMU passing record) 31 TDs, 14 INTs, leads SMU to Armed Forces Bowl, losing by 2 to Army.

2011: Starts first game, throws INT on first two possessions, June Jones pulls him, backup JJ McDermott excels. Played a little in relief next two games before suffering a back injury while lifting weights, done for year. Texas' Garrett Gilbert is transferring to SMU, so Padron transfers out. Bo Levi talks him into EWU.

Didn't hurt that we have a strong supporting cast including some of the best WRs in the nation at the FCS level, and we run a spread similar to the one he ran in HS. With what BLM was able to do here, I'm sure it didn't take a whole lot to sell him. Baldwin is a hell of a coach too.

Andre Broadous of Cal Poly deserves to be in this discussion. 19 games with only 1 interception and over 1700 yards passing in a Triple Option offense. Can't remember his running stats and TDs off the top of my head, but they're good also. His senior year should be even better!

BLM had a metric **** ton of talent around him last year - didn't help him one bit though, did it? (I say this as someone who watched you disappear after the Eagles lost a couple to start the season last year, even though I had previously enjoyed your posts and was saddened by your fair-weather support for EWU).

Even as a mondo Griz supporter, I'm a solid fan of McGhee. He's got great awareness, rarely panics, has solid numbers and finds ways to make plays. And he'll be a junior - can we just make him graduate already?

Uhh, WTF.

First off, your argument about BLM is invalid because all the talent around him was injured and done for the season one by one last year, starting with 2 or 3 OL in the first week or two. Regardless, he still won the Payton so that kind of sinks your point completely.

Secondly, I didn't disappear because EWU was losing. I was getting more hours at work, and dealing with a significant matter in my personal life that was affecting me pretty negatively, not that it's any of your business. If you knew me, you'd know that I'm the exact opposite of a fairweather fan. I've missed ONE EWU home game since my freshman year at EWU in 2004. I bleed red and white. So kindly STFU about matters you have no clue.

Lastly, MY point was that Sorensen is better. Do you wish to contend that?
