The Celebrity Benefit Tourney in the name of American League Home Run Record holder Roger Maris will be held this weekend in Fargo. If anyone is in the Farog area this week, the tourney is a great event. Charity auction Saturday Night, Memorabilia Show & Banquet Sunday night, plus golf on Sunday and Monday.

FARGO, ND (June 14, 2006)- - - Former Major League baseball stars John “Blue Moon” Odom, Roy Sievers, Ralph Terry, Carl Warwick and Maury Wills, former National Football League veterans Joey Browner and Phil Hansen, golfers Mike Barge and David Schultz, ex-National Hockey League goalie Gilles Gilbert and Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks manager Doug Simunic will join the field for the 23rd annual Roger Maris Celebrity Benefit Golf Tournament.

Former Major League stars Johnny Blanchard, Ryne Duren, Whitey Herzog, Fred Patek and Ken Sanders will join the field for the 23rd annual Roger Maris Celebrity Benefit Golf Tournament.

Vern Law, anchor of the Pittsburgh Pirates’ pitching staff for 16 seasons, and former Minnesota Twins Bernie Allen, Rich Reese, Rich Rollins and Dick Stigman will join the field for the 23rd annual Roger Maris Celebrity Benefit Golf Tournament.

Actors and entertainers will once again help fill the field for the 23rd annual Roger Maris Celebrity Benefit Golf Tournament, including Paul Borghese, Zachary Ty Bryan, Michael Finney, Daniel Lee Martin and Barry Pepper

I have many fond memories of playing Roger Maris youth baseball at Lindendwood park in south Fargo. I didn't even know who he was until his home run record was in jeopardy many years later.
