FSU BOT Chair Blasts ACC, Opens Door For Big 12 (http://floridastate.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1364755)

"It's mind-boggling and shocking," said Haggard. "How can the ACC give up third tier rights for football but keep them for basketball?"

Haggard is referring to the fact that the ACC surrendered all third tier television rights for football to ESPN/ABC but kept them for men's basketball. That arrangement will likely result in substantial revenue for schools with a strong basketball following like North Carolina and Duke.On the other hand, it will do very little for schools with a more traditional football following like FSU, Clemson, Virginia Tech and Miami.

"It continues the perception that the ACC favors the North Carolina schools," noted Haggard.......

Haggard confirmed that as far as he knows there has been no contact between FSU and the Big 12 regarding possible expansion. However, he makes it very clear that he and the Board of Trustees would be more than open to exploring the possibility if it would mean additional revenue to the school.

"How do you not look into that option," asked Haggard. "On behalf of the Board of Trustees I can say that unanimously we would be in favor of seeing what the Big 12 might have to offer. We have to do what is in Florida State's best interest."

As a Nole fan I'd like to see where this goes. Don't really think it'll happen but who knows.

Why wouldn't they try to get FSU and Florida into the same conference...have FSU join the SEC.

I'm not sure if the Gators would be open to the Noles coming in.

Supposedly there is a "gentleman's agreement" between SEC schools to not allow a second team from the same state in. I think FSU would make an incredible addition to the SEC. They make way too much sense there for it to actually happen though.

So Mississippi State, Auburn, and Vandy are exempt from this agreement? that's a shame. Clemson and FSU would be great SEC add ins as opposed to A&M

They're all founding members from 1933. No one from a state already existing in the SEC footprint has been added though. Arkansas, South Carolina, Missouri, and Texas A&M were the additions.

Very important note when it comes to realignment. If it makes sense, it will almost surely not happen. FSU/Clemson to the SEC to provide Florida/South Carolina with an already bitter rival to join them in the conference and raise the stakes on their match-ups would have been great. Instead, Texas A&M and Missouri.

I even understand Texas A&M, but Missouri is an extremely questionable add. As you said, there are already established rivalries with FSU/Clemson. I'm a UGA fan second and I know we want to play Clemson every year. That was a very good rivalry.

I understand the idea of Texas A&M because in theory, what college football conference would not want to be in Texas for recruiting? Realistically though, I'm not sure what they add especially compared to FSU/Clemson. Being in Texas is great but with all the household names in the SEC, those guys could own Alaska if they wanted to. Alabama, Auburn, Tennessee, Georgia, etc. do not need A&M to get their pick of athletes from the state.

Besides adding the state of Texas, there are (were) rivalries with Arkansas and LSU. I know that still isn't much, but it is what it is. I would love to see FSU in the SEC. I know they'd hold their own in all sports. I'd love nothing more than to see the Noles ruin any UF shot at a championship. xlolx
