Today, I finished Game of Shadows, the Mark Fainaru-Wade and Lance Williams authored book that discusses Barry Bonds, BALCO and the steroid scandal at large that in the last four, five years has changed the landscape of professional sports as we know it.

Now, more so than ever, I feel that steroids has made a great impact on sports. No, not just Barry Bonds, but the glamour sport of track and field. While some feel that the book is a collection of lies, the authors at the end of the book go into a great deal of explanation where they obtained their facts as well as the people that provided them. These documents include information from the courts, documents from the USADA, newspaper articles, media appearances (like Victor Conte's 20/20 interview) and countless interviews with individuals tied to Barry Bonds and these athletes.

Before I read this book, I may have been a bit blind to steroids and thought their impact on the world of sports was minimal. Today, after having read this book, I feel that all of sports, not just baseball is a mess and that those fighting the cheaters of our time are playing catchup with individuals who feel they need to cheat to stay competitive. Sports will never be the same because of these cheats and I do not think it's possible for us to know who in our past has cheated using various kinds of drugs.
