Cal Poly SLO's Chris Gocong is the subject of a nice article written in this morning's Allentown Morning Call. Writer is Larry O'Rourke of the Morning Call Staff who obviously was involved in a lengthy interview with Gocong at the recent Eagles' mini-camp. He will report to Lehigh on July 20 (hope he gets used to the humidity!;) ).
Plan is to make him a linebacker. Article also notes he should be able to pick up any complexity of Jim Johnson's defensive schemes due to his rigorous academic training at Cal Poly where he majored in engineering. He should feel right at home during camp at Lehigh.
Article should be viewable online at www.mcall.com/sports
Biggest thing Gocong will have to learn is dropping into pass coverage, as he spent most of his college career chasing quarterbacks on the rush. Now he'll be covering tight ends. However, he sounds like a very confident guy and the Eagles may have really caught themselves a diamond in the rough.
