I believe that makes them the first:
Umass ranked 16 (http://www.collegesports.com/sports/m-footbl/stories/052305aaj.html)
In the first football preseason poll for the 2005 season, UMass is ranked No. 16 by AnyGivenSaturday.com, a website covering Division I-AA. The Minutemen are one of seven A-10 schools in the poll which is led by conference foe and defending champ James Madison

I'm getting slow... I searched for threads that said who was the first but missed that one in the thread.
My bad... does this make them second?

I saw the exact same story on CSTV's site yesterday, but with the tagline of Amherst, MA so I guess the UMass athletic department released it before CSTV did.

I fully expected these to be separate threads... I guess next time I'll hit the search button instead of looking a new thread titles!

I can see that - they were probably shocked to see how high they were. :)
