don't like to read about this.........

It'll be about impossible for the other 10 FB teams to now get a replacement 11th game (except for BCC, NCCU). NC A&T now has open Oct. 13th, as does Gardner-Webb........3 hours apart.

It didn't say that they were terminated and it doesn't mention football or other fall sports, so maybe jumping the gun that there will be no football season??

So let me get this straight: the fact that members of the bowling team used the extra $1.97 in their textbook vouchers on Tic Tacs is such a horrible NCAA violation that Howard might need to suspend their entire athletics program; meanwhile, Reggie Bush's parents get free accomodations from USC and they get a suspension. Oh, yeah. Priorites certainly seem in order here. xrolleyesx

Howard has changed course ,and now some teams are playing, according to the Washington Post.

According the the Washington City Paper, the problem is much more than that: "A current Howard athlete, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, tells us that the book voucher issue extends across all teams and sports. The student athlete says the university has not been keeping track of textbook voucher money awarded to athletes since 2010—and now every team has students who are ineligible to play under NCAA rules."

The vouchers are one problem. The far larger problem, according to the account above (which, again, is not confirmed), is that this has allegedly gone on for two years without either a) staff awareness of the procedures, b) inappropriate auditing and record keeping of who got the checks and who did not, or c) the apparent absence of the compliance office on the impact for current or prior eligibility. In NCAA parlance, that's "lack of institutional control", a bigger issue than any single student athlete.

Compliance issues. The entire compliance office should be terminated. Along w/ some of the "recruiting" coaches.

You didn't get it straight. The article says that the issue affects the entire athletic department and that the specifics were leaked by a member of the bowling team.

It seems to me that Howard is determined to set things right without going into denial mode. I hope they'll accept whatever penalties are administered without whitewashing, and move forward even stronger.

The infractions likely pale in comparison to what goes on in the SEC (for example) but that still doesn't make it right. Leadership means setting a noble example, not showing what you can get away with. Howard's history suggests that it will lead by example here. The real test will be if Howard has the wherewithal to terminate the employees who facilitated this, or who turned a blind eye - and make it public.

They fired the new head of compliance two months ago.
