The one and only. Those players who had the opportunity to see Gibson play say he was far and away the superior hitter. One HOF member, name escapes me, I remember in an interview said the sound coming from Gibson's bat was the same he heard from only one player in the 4 decades of being around baseball, and that was Babe Ruth.

Buck O'Neil was the player. He also said Bo Jackson's bat made the same sound.

If it weren't for Buck O'Neil, all we'd know about Josh Gibson would be that he's bigger than everybody else in team photographs. We'd be saying "that guy might have been a very good hitter," and that's about it.

According to the Negro League Register in the Baseball Encyclopedia Gibson only hit 146 homeruns. If it weren't for O'Neil's hard work, Gibson might never have gotten his due.
