Some great coaches have passed through Orono, including a few Hall of Famers. They have a terrific coaching tradition for sure.

Problem for some UM fans though is that they haven't been able to get rid of the one coach they have wanted to see go- Jack Cosgrove. His once-a-decade playoff appearance last season probably guaranteed that he'll be around for a while longer.

That is true. Coach Ford has over 150 former coaches in the NFL, NCAA and high school ranks.

Coaches come and go at every school, especially the graduate assistants just starting out, but having to replace 4 or 5 in March and April and come up with quality might be a challenge for any school, let alone one with the payscale up at Orono.

Chuck is definitely a diamond, but not really in the rough. He was supposed to be Coach Ford's replacement upon retirement. Hard to wait for Ford to go 40+ years. xcoolx

It's ironic that Rossi left for Rutgers to join the coach he replaced on the Maine staff. Robb Smith has been the defensive coordinator for the Scarlet Knights for the last two seasons since leaving Maine in 2009 and was retained by new Head Coach Flood. Rossi had been elevated to coordinator after Smith left.

Dwayne Wilmot is the new defensive line coach and recruiting coordinator at Yale one year removed from holding the same position at Maine for 5 seasons. A former star receiver and captain at Maine, he coached the defensive line for Maine that in 2006 led the nation in rushing defense and produced 3 NFL players, Mike DeVito (Jets), Jovan Belcher (Chiefs), and Mike King. He had a major role in luring both Cahill and Vashal to Yale.

The Bangor Daily News also confirmed tonight that Steve Boyle has also moved on from the Black Bears, although they didn't disclose his next destination.

How true. Montana is one season removed from 7-4 and lost both the defensive and offensive coordinator. Hard to keep them when they can move to an FBS school and triple salary.

There is no greater testament to the terrific coaching done by Cosgrove & McDonnell than the staff turnover these Head Coaches manage all the time. I doubt many FBS coaches are as intimately involved in day-to-day coaching as these two. Both players and young assistants. And especially in UNH's case with exceptional results.

Jack already went public with their names earlier this week on Rich Kimball's radio show.

Latest word out of Orono has Paul Ferraro, Steve Spagnola's linebacker coach for the St. Louis Rams, taking over as the new Defensive Coordinator at Maine. Nothing confirmed yet, but Ferraro would be making a return to the Black Bears where he served as a defensive coach during the 1989 season.
