in fairness, they've only played 10 times in those 82 years.

Still can't believe we blew that confederation cup final back in 09. I was watching it in Italy and things in Sorrento were a little ugly when the US was up 1-0 at the half.

Soccer? Is that the game with rules sort of like hockey but you run instead of skate and can't hit each other or fight?

... just kidding. Go America! xbandwagonx

Chalk up another good game for former Paladin Clint Dempsey.

Did not know he was a Paladin. He puts the ball in the net, and that is what it's all about. A few years ago, USA beat Spain, and now Italy in a friendly. The team just needs a good World Cup showing in 2014 now.

Indeed he was. http://www.furmanpaladins.com/sports/m-soccer/2009-10/photos/0001/dempsey-023.jpg?max_width=250 He even married a former Furman cheerleader.

As of the last world cup, two starters for the US team were former Paladins (Clint Dempsey and Ricardo Clark). When you step back and think about it, it is absolutely astounding that of the 19 players on the squad, two played together at the same school.

Probably could be assumed, but when Clark and Dempsey were at Furman, the Paladins were really really good. In 2002 the team set a NCAA record for 46 straight matches without a loss. In that same season they went a record 11 straight games without surrendering a single goal. Furman's always been pretty good at Men's Soccer, but in those years, they were absolutely incredible to watch.
