Does your coach/school have summer football camps for high school students.? Do they have camps in places other than the campus/city?
Do you think this is a good recruiting tool?

Yes, UMass will be running four off-campus football clinics this year. The UMass article is here (http://umassathletics.cstv.com/sports/m-footbl/spec-rel/050406aaa.html).

Don't know if they are considered recruiting tools or not. A couple of players who attended in the past have ended up at UMass.

Yes, Colgate has a summer camp at Colgate. Great time to come up this way too - it will be relatively cooler than some more southern places. I do believe our DC runs it though.

Our new head coach wants to try it this year. We typically haven't because high school kids have so many camps to chose from in the area. We will have a team camp and then a passing camp, I believe in July.

I think camps of varying degrees are common at most DI schools anymore. It's just one more way for potential recruits to see the campus and meet coaches and it's another way for coaches to evaluate players. It's not the end all be all of recruitment, but it certainly plays a part.

Yes...there are normal camps in addition to a high school 7 on 7 tournament and a fairly big-time kicking academy. Coach Hope stays pretty involved with all of it as I understand it.

off the top of my head, and checking www.ucasports.com, I do not think Clint Conque does any kind of camp or camps in the summer. Or if he does, it/they have not been announced as of yet.

I'm not sure, if they presently dont do camps, if they will change and start doing them in the future. Obviously it is a good way to get kids and recruits on campus.

Defensive backs Everson Walls and Albert Lewis are scheduled to return to assist with this week's Melvin Spears Football Camp. (June 1th).

Walls, selected to the Kodak Division I-AA All-America team in 1980, went on to a 14-season NFL career that included four Pro Bowls and a Super Bowl title with the New York Giants.

Lewis, a four-time Pro Bowler, played cornerback and safety for 16 seasons with Kansas City and Oakland after being named first-team All-SWAC in 1981-82.

Do you think this is a good recruiting tool?

THE CAMPERS

Biloxi quarterback Tonie Spears (no relation to Tigers coach Melvin Spears) and receiver Derek James have both become early GSU commitments.

The senior-year pledges come after the prepsters attended Grambling's recent camps. They are also slated to participate in a similar event at Southern Miss this summer.

Playing in Class 5A, Mississippi's largest classification, the 6-2, 192-pound Spears had more than 900 yards passing and seven touchdowns last season. One of his top targets was James, also 6-2 and 190 pounds.

MagnoliaPreps.com reported that Spears received interest from Mississippi State, Southern Miss and Tennessee. The same report said James was being recruited by Memphis, Mississippi State and Southern Miss.

Both Camps Resident $425- Day $300

As to whether or not it helps recruiting, it's not like there are a lot of D-I teams around here running the option, now that Georgia Southern has joined the Dark Side and plans to throw the ball up in the air.

What is interesting is that the Wofford offense is never called "Wing T"

While it's not really a camp for the Nicholls football team, they do host a lineman camp every year for high school offensive and defensive linemen.

Additionally, for the 2nd year in a row, the Manning Passing Academy (http://www.colonelsports.com/Sports%20Information%20Releases/06%20Air%20it%20Out%20Session.htm) starts tomorrow (July 6). Put on by Archie, Peyton and Eli Manning, the academy regularly attracts some of the best high school players in the country and several standout NFL players.
