It looks like KC is leaning towards picking Luke Hochevar, who was drafted by the Dodgers last year but didn't sign. In my opinion, this is a bad move for KC, b/c they are not exactly frugal with their money, and Hochevar wants an enormous amount of money up front.
One of my customers is a Giants scout, and we were talking about who they were looking at. I mentioned Andrew Miller from UNC, and he said that they would probably have no shot at it, but looking at this:http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/article_perspectives.jsp?ymd=20060605&content_id=1489090&vkey=perspectives&fext=.jsp, he may be wrong

It's based strictly on won-loss record.

The Braves had Dustin Evans at 97MPH on the gun. Funny thing is, he was nowhere near our best pitcher.

Second round supplimental:
#75: Matthew McBride, Lehigh - Cleveland
Wow! A few weeks ago he was projected around the 5th Round. He obviously caught more interest based on his playoff performance. He was the third catcher drafted and the first catcher drafted out of college.
The Lehigh website has an interview with McBride on www.lehighsports.com
Lehigh will certainly miss him next year. He's 19 credits short of graduating. Says he expects t finish in the off season next year. Might be on his way to one of Clevelands minor league teams by end of this week.

SU signee Cedric Hunter was drafted in the 3rd round.
Southern coach Roger Cador does not expect to have Hunter, who was on Baseball ’s Preseason All-America second team.
“He swings the bat like a man,” Cador said.
A year ago, SU signee Cameron Maybin was taken 10th by the Detroit Tigers. The outfielder is sidelined for a few weeks with a finger injury after a strong start in Class A this season.
“It speaks volumes that we can go out and sign that type of talent,” Cador said.

Reported in today's Morning Call that the Red Sox were very interested in McBride, but that Cleveland beat them to him. I sorry the Phils didn't make a run--but they did get a hotshot pitching phenom out of Texas--the son of Doug Drabek. Supposedly has a 97 mph fastball and nasty curve. Did have an underage drinking incident last year, which may have scared some teams off, but in this day and age I'd find that surprising...
McBride supposedly will be offered a contract with a signing bonus in the $500K range...

Last year had a Kat sign with the Mets after the draft. This year, we get one drafted...
June 7 , 2006.
Dustin Martin, senior outfielder for Sam Houston State from Burnet, Texas, has been drafted by the New York Mets.
Martin was the 784th selection in the 2006 Major League Baseball draft in the 26th round.
Martin, who finished the regular season as the Southland Conference's leading hitter with a .389 average, was a first team All-Southland Conference selection for the Bearkats in 2006.
Martin totaled 81 hits in 208 at-bats with six home runs and 16 doubles to go along with 13 stolen bases.
The senior right fielder also ranked third in the Southland in on-base pct. (.480) and sixth in both doubles (16) and slugging pct. (.572).
A four-year letterman for the Bearkats, Martin appeared in 180 games and produced a .337 career batting average with 80 career RBIs, 29 doubles and 11 home runs.
His .389 batting average his senior season is the fifth best ever by a Bearkat at the NCAA Division I level.

I saw a game at the Vet where Doug Drabek had a no-hitter going with two outs in the ninth, only to have it broken up by the immortal Sil Campusano!

Wasn't Drabek the guy who broke his arm while pitching for the Giants a number of years ago. They said you could hear the bone crack during the pitch...
