Do you play softball? Golf? Sail? Backpack? Fish? What's your passion?
I am an old salt and spend most of the summer on the water.

I am a Volleyball nut. I play sand volleyball about three times a week during the summer. I played men's club in college. I also do the occasional fishing.

I like to fish, golf and have recently started doing some kayaking (which is often in tandem with fishing).
If you can stand the heat, there are great bargains to be had for golf down here. A course that might cost $100 in March can be played for $35 in July.

Flathead Lake is the largest natural lake in Montana and the largest freshwater lake in the western United States, outside of Alaska. It is the one of the cleanest lakes of its size in the world. Located in the northwest corner of the state, 7 miles (11 km) south of Kalispell, it is nearly 30 miles (50 km) long, 16 miles (25 km) wide, and covers 197 square miles (510 km²). The islands cover 5.5 square miles (14.2 square kilometers). Formed by the glacial damming of the Flathead River, the lake is bordered on its eastern shore by the Mission Mountains and on the west by the Salish Mountains. Once known as Selish Lake, the lake takes its name from the Salish (Flathead) Indians who live on the Flathead Indian Reservation located at the southern end of the lake. Kerr Dam, near Polson, regulates the lake's water level and provides hydroelectric power and water for irrigation. Bigfork and Somers occupy the north side of the lake and are very popular among Calgary tourists. Bigfork offers a wide variety of restaurants, shopping, theatre, boating, and more. Bigfork Bay is one of the strange and irregular shapped bays in the lake. The bay is where the Swan River meets the lake. The lake has an irregular shoreline and several small islands, the largest of which is Wild Horse Island, a state park. Besides the Flathead River, the Swan River is the lake's other major tributary. The lake is inhabited by native bull trout and cutthroat trout, as well lake trout, yellow perch and lake whitefish.

I do my laps in the pool at lunchtime. PLus, for my birthday, the Mrs. got me a football game for the pool--where you throw small rubber footballs at target holes in a large plastic football for different points. She knows she married a juvenile 28 years ago. I'll golf once or twice with my Dad and follow my Phillies. Hope to get a hike or two in up at Hawk Mountain or a canoe on the Lehigh River.

I have played beach volleyball for many years but have had to curtail it due to a serious Bicycling injury that I got in September of 2004. I have won money playing beach volleyball so technically I am a Pro. I began coaching volleyball in 1990. I will return to cycling this year but I am still concerned about injury (drafting) situations.

Flathead Lake ...
Wow! What a great looking lake.
Here's where we spend much of our time in the summer on our boat:
Known as Iowa’s Great lakes, the Okoboji chain is a prairie oasis for Midwestern boaters. The main attractions of the Okoboji area are the glacier-carved lakes. This beautiful chain of lakes extends from the Minnesota border southwest several miles and covers about fifteen thousand acres. The Iowa Great Lakes include Iowa’s largest natural lake, Spirit Lake and five interconnected lakes: West Okoboji, East Okoboji, Upper Gar, Lower Gar and Minnewashta. Spring-fed West Lake Okoboji is second largest lake in the chain and covers 3,850 acres, the deepest at 134 feet and is spring fed, which explains is remarkably beautiful blue appearance. It is the centerpiece of the five chain lakes.

Not a lot occupies my mind more than fishing, irregardless of the season.
But this time of year, with all the hatches, all my focus is centered on landing a 24" Salmo Clarki Lewisi.
To answer the question of this thread, I'll say fishing...from 6AM 'til 10AM, to be resumed at 5PM 'til about 9:30PM, 7 days a week, through November.
Flathead Lake is beautiful beyond words, but it is the absolutely the coldest water my manly body has ever been in.

Come Grizo when did you swim in flathead? By July the shorline waters at 10-12 feet and under are very swimable. Mid 60's water temp and very refreshing on a hot day. You drive by Polson and you see hundreds of swimmers at their beaches. I often sail the boat into a nice island cove, anchor out and we swim to the island, hike around a bit and then swim back.

I found a nice aerial picture of the Clearwater Bay area of the intracoastal where I do most of my kayaking/fishing. There is a small park and boat ramp at the end of my street which meets the water just about in the middle of the two islands you see near the center of the picture. The brown dot between the islands is an oyster bar which is surrounded with redfish at high tide. There are grass flats to the left of the bridge which are also very good for fishing.

Last July 20th & 21st. I must have been in a cold spot, 'cause the water I was in was far from being in the mid 60's. "The boys" were huggin' my diaphragm when I got out of the water, and didn't return to their rightful home until mid August.

Well as Putter said the season is short up here and I try to go out and play as much as possible. I am college student with a part time job(that pays well) so I have plenty of time to golf. Plus, I bought a pass for a course in Fargo for $375 that lets me play anytime I want. My goal is to get my game consistant enough to play well in the Pine to Palm Golf Tourney in August. I've always been a decent golfer but I want to see how much I improve if I spend a lot of time playing.

When I lived in Fargo, early 80's, the club I joined was $165 for a family. I got pretty darn consistant golfing 3-4 times a week. Had my only ever under par nine holes that year.

Stop right there, that explains it. When I was first out of college working my first job and single, I played 7 days a week (not exaggerating). Sometimes I forget that we're not all married with kids. What your handicap Fargo?

Amazing what playing a lot can do for you isn't it? When I was playing 7 days a week I was a much better golfer. I had a weekend when I shot 66-68 on Sat/Sun... that was the last time I've broken par as I got in the golf business a month later and stopped playing as much. :bawling:

I entered the FM All-City the year I was playing consistantly. Paired against a 12 handicap in match-play. He played 1 under on the front nine, and I never got close. :)

I golf and/or fish regularly. I've actually fished more than i played golf this year. My golf games in dissaray from what it used to be. I played in HS and had a couple offers to play at D3 schools but didn't really think much of it. I used to shoot in the mid 80's consisitently, in fact my consistency was my strength, i never broke 80 but for 3-4 years i never had a "bad" round either. I actually started think about the potential in playing in a couple local tourneys, maybe even the local pro event in a couple years if i kepted progressing; then everything fell apart. The last two years have been a complete dissaster. My buddy's have no idea what happened and i can't figure it out. I was only able to break 90 ONCE last year after have only be on the high side of it 8-9 times the previous 4 years. This year has started out the same way and i've pretty much hung up my bag until i can get some lessons. I've enjoyed my redidication to fishing that a year off from golf might not bother me, although i will go just get out. I also go to 3 Nascar races over the course of the summer. I'm going to Dover this Sunday, Pocono next weekend and then again in July.

I am about a 7 or 8 handicap which is good but it will be interesting to see what happens after golfing 4 or 5 times a week over the summer. Hopefully after college I can still get out a few times a week but I still have a few years before I need to worry about that.

I wouldn't worry too much, GLTo, unless your fishing skills start heading down the same road that your golfing skills seem to have taken. If that happens, then I'd start worrying!:D
