Congrats. to NDSU.
What is their active recruiting base?
Do they take a lot of JUCO's,prep-school and transfer players?
How many high schools play FB in ND?
Mentioned in broadcast that coach Bohl uses a plane-so impression is that they cast a wide net?

A fair amount from North and South Dakota. They seem to have a lot from Wisconsin and Minnesota. Makes sense because there are no FCS, or even lower level FBS schools, in those states.
McNorton and Holloway are from Texas, but it appears the have a limited number of southern guys.

Minnesota, Wisconsin, amd North Dakota are the top states for recruits with SD, IA, KS and a few other states sprinkled in.
There are no FBS transfers on the team and only a couple of juco players (only two played on offense or defense yesterday).

Coach Bohl visits every North Dakota high school that sponsors football ... even though North Dakota only has a little over 100 HS football teams, that is still pretty impressive (it's also fantastic public relations.)
Basically, recruiting starts with North Dakota-South Dakota-Minnesota and works itself out to Wisconsin. Since going DI, NDSU has expanded recruiting to Nebraska, Illinois, Kansas, and Arizona. They haven't spent much time in Texas lately although obviously they've been there. More NDSU players come from Minnesota than any other state - it helps that Fargo is on the Minnesota border.
Pike and Willson were two JUCOs playing yesterday and they were huge parts of the team. No FBS transfers or prep school guys.

I wonder what its like when he visits Grand Forks Central, and Grand Forks Red River. I suppose the same as Coach Mussman visiting Fargo South, North, Davies, Shanley, and West Fargo.

Thought I saw two Texas recruits at the game yesterday.
Didn't get a chance to see their letterman jackets but saw two guys from the same school with some dude with a briefcase bag having an animate conversation with them as they walked onto the field from the stands after the game. They continued talking and walking towards the Bison football team which was on stage for the trophy presentation.
I'm assuming those were recruits who were there to watch the game, and what a better way to sell them on NDSU then winning a national championship and witnessing what kind of crowd support they will be receiving during their tenure as Bison football players.

I always hear that, but I can never remember him coming to Hankinson.

Off the top of my head I can't think of a current Bison from California.
Edit...oops, NDSUdude23 is correct.

That's incredible. This also means that you all have excellent coaching. Props to the Bison on the excellent championship season.

One of the players in post said he had a lot of family in Houston. I don't remember his name but he was the only non white player that did the post game. I think he was DJ. So not a lot from the state if he is indeed from TX. I wonder how he got to Fargo TBH.

Planes trains and automobiles. ;) We used to have a coach that had tx connections. I don't believe we do anymore. We have had terrible luck with texas recruits other than very few. They defect quite often, grades or cold.

#81 WR..Warren Holloway out of Houston, TX. Senior
#8 RB....DJ McNorton out of Channelview, TX. Senior
Our Defensive coordinator back in in 200?-2008 was Willie Mack Garza, he hailed out of Texas. He made some great inroads for recruiting the Texas boys.
Garza received his bachelor's degree in social work from the University of Texas at Austin in 1993. Garza was an All-America prep running back at Refugio High School in Refugio, Texas, and three-time all-state selection as a running back and defensive back. He was inducted into the Texas High School Hall of Fame in April 2000.

I could do the official tally but I'll just take a guess that 80-85% of the starters since Bohl has been head coach have been from ND, SD, MN and WI. That's always going to be the base. No I-AA schools in MN or WI and the Gophers and Badgers only take the very best from their states. Same for NE although it has smaller population, but some good players from there as well.

ND, SD, MN, and WI. We redshirt and develop a majority of our guys. It's great coaching and training programs.

He's from Sioux Falls and has a bunch of family in Fargo. That was a big part to him coming here.
