I generally root for I-AA football teams when they are playing I-A teams.

I see no reason why I have to always root for a I-AA school if they are playing a I-A school. I don't consider I-A schools to be the enemy of I-AA schools.

To the point here: I have been thrown out of many of the best schools in the east. Potential allegiances are like grains of sand on the beach. I received a bachelor's degree from the school whose helmet is my avatar at this site. Other I-AA schools with which I have a connection: Penn (daughter), Cornell (daughter), Duquesne, and - dare I say it - Lehigh where I randomly took courses over the years for no other reason than I liked to do it. I-A school with a serious allegiance is Penn State (graduate degree), and D-III schools in the mix: Bates and MIT.

Current student here at Coastal Carolina University, and am a member of pretty much all the bands (marching, symphonic, pep) and the current President (for about another month) of our chapter of Kappa Kappa Psi. Have been a student since 2003, the first year CCU fielded a football team.

My mom also attended CCU (then USC-Coastal) in the mid 1980's, having transferred from Winthrop (to be here at home since she had me). Funny fact - the same man who taught my Sophomore Music Theory class also taught my mom Music Theory 20 years ago. Weird.

I'll graduate with my undergrad in May 2007, then my first graduate degree (hopefully, LoL) in May 2008. After that, I'm probably going to USC for a second Master's degree.

Some people would consider covering I-AA to be small-time. But a beat's a beat. There's a fan base either way that needs to be informed and stories to be uncovered. I enjoy covering I-AA quite a bit, mostly because people seem to be so much more accessible.

4 year-old daughter has been to EIWA's, 1 softball game and lacrosse game (same day), Lehigh/Lafayette basketball game when they were #1 and #2 in the PL, PL Basketball championship game that put Lehigh in their only March Madness appearance in the last 20 years, 2 road football games (Harvard and Delaware last year) and about half a dozen home football games.

Since your Father got a Master's from UD you are forgiven temporarly for actually watching Marshall. (Moss is still a punk) You are allowed to root for ASU and to bask in their glory and your Dad is invited to our tailgate anytime but you seriously need to lose any Marshall allegiance on this board!!!

Ol' Fu has all the Marshall rules on his hard drive. Your only saving grace is that you were so young at the time. :nod: :nod: :nod:

I received my B.A. from Lehigh in Government and Economics. Played for the, then, Engineers my freshman and sophomore years. Have always stayed close to the program as well as 'other things Lehigh'. Daughter began attending LU football when she was two and some of her first words were 'beat Lafayette.' However, she ended up at Bucknell..:( Felt LU was too close to home--However, she continued to always cheer for Lehigh. Only Bucknell games she ever attended were when they played Lehigh, and she sat and cheered for the Brown and White on the Lehigh side of the field. So the diploma is Blue and Orange, but the blood is still Brown and White.
I was also recruited at Lafayette, Delaware(where my uncle lpayed in the 1950's) and Cornell and enjoyed all three visits. Except when across the field, I'm a strong supporter of all PL schools and what they stand for.:nod:

In my entire extended family that attends UD games I am one of the few who have actually graduated from UD. The numbers are approximately 80% non UD grads to the rest. In all honesty the more intense UD fans are not UD grads!!! This includes my nephew who is a U of Miami grad!!!! (I have a ton of stories on this but all must PM me for the details)

I attended my first game in 1960. The president of the US was Eisenhower and the Governor of Delaware was Cale Boggs. My family has had season tickets since the fall of 1963. My son attended his first game in 1974. All of my nephews attended UD games before they were 3.

Connected to our family is a group of at least another 4 or 5 families who also live and breathe Delaware Football. (We were featured in the Delaware State News Last year)

In our family Delaware Football is part of your DNA code. If you don't have it, You won't survive.

Graduated from EKU in May 2005. In all likelyhood I will eventually attend graduate school at the University of Louisville, though that is not set in stone at this point. Last year (my first as an alum) I made it to all but one home football game and attended about 9 basketball games as well driving from Louisville (90 minutes) for all of them.

My grandfather played at Michigan so I grew up a huge fan of the maize and blue. I didn't know Georgia Southern existed until I moved back to Savannah in '82 (ironically the restart of football) and I didn't know anything about I-AA until my freshman year in '84. Unfortunately, being drunk and stupid kept me from graduating. It didn't keep me from loving the school. My dad also became a huge fan and football season is our time.

I met my wife at Georgia Southern and I have two daughters I hope will attend (and graduate...?). The older girl will hopefully get a music scholarship.

Since then, all I-A schools have become worthless to me. I feel this view will have to change soon.

I just finished my first year at the University of Virginia and have been a huge Cavaliers fan forever.

With that said, Ralph, (I was actually the person Ralph was tormenting xlolx over my dual-allegiances), I have also been a JMU fan for as long as I can remember, as I've lived in Harrisonburg my entire life and moreover, my father has taught political science at JMU since 1980, six years before I was born. I started going to JMU games when I was probably about seven, and we had season tickets until I was fifteen. I still went to games after we no longer got season tickets and I discovered AGS a few weeks into what turned out to be JMU's national championship season, and have been on here much too much ever since.

So I guess my blood runs orange and blue for I-A, but purple and gold for I-AA. And since JMU and UVA don't really play each other much in most sports (only women's lacrosse this year), I get by cheering for both teams in all sports.

Fell in love with football during my stay (soccer is not really my thing, except for the World and European Cups) and I already was a huge basketball fan (being 6'8"). So now I listen to all football games over the internet at unreligious hours due to the time difference.

Electrical Engineering Grad - 1971. Wife graduated from UCDavis in 73. Started taking my daughter to Aggie Games at 9 mo.s old. She knew the words to the now (somehow) banned "Cal Aggie Drinking Song" at age 2.

Returned to Grad. School in 2002. Will be in and out of that program for years to come, if they let me. Why now after retirement? It may help my trout fishing.

By the way, when and why was Hofstra's nickname changed?

Back around the late 80's Hofstra created The Pride Club, an alumni organization and that kicked off the whole Hofstra "Pride" thing. Back then it was never used for a nickname, more as being proud of the university. We have always had lion mascots, or at least since I have been there, then maybe five or six years ago the university adopted Pride as a second nickname (some say for PC reasons that the womens teams didn't like Lady Dutch) and used the two interchangably. Last year however the school went 100% with Pride (like a pride of lions, teamwork, yada yada yada). To me however, they will always be the Flying Dutchmen.

I have no ties to I-AA.I am primarily a Clemson fan.

However, I am a lifelong South Carolina resident, and have always pulled for the South Carolina teams (other than South Carolina itself)

I've been to games at all the 1-AA schools in SC* except Coastal, and I hope to get down to Conway this year.

*(Wofford was Div II when I went to see them play in 1989)

I'm going to be torn next year though when Presbyterian College moves up to I-AA. I have an uncle who lettered as a player and coached at Newberry. Hating PC has become a habit.xlolx

The wrestling coach and one of the wrestlers from App came down to my dad's high school in the 70's to recruit from among the local talent (we're only about 30 miles from Boone in my hometown). My dad put up quite a strong showing against the App wrestler, breaking one of the guy's ribs in the process.

My dad was offered a wrestling scholarship and a double meal-ticket for playing football. This, combined with the Aid available to him as the 2nd youngest of 12 farm kids, would have paid his tuition in full.

As it happened, my dad figured the 2nd youngest of 12 farm kids wasn't college material. He declined the offer and enrolled instead in community college. His twin sister did go on to ASU, graduating in the class of 1976 with a PE major. She followed in the footsteps of one of her aunts (my great aunt), a graduate of the old App State Teacher's College.

My dad has been working in the NC High country since the late 70's; many of his closest friends are up there. These include some current and former ASU folks. He started taking our family to ASU games when I was 7 or 8 years old. We've been going now for over 20 years.

Sure, I graduated from there, but so did 85,000 other people. And among those 85,000 are countless teachers, without whom I would not be finishing a Master's degree and looking into beginning a Doctorate. (My little brother is at ASU now, and, if he gets his act together, he'll be turning heads on the baseball team next season.)

It is virtually impossible to graduate from high school in Western NC without coming under the guidance of an ASU grad. That's a pretty strong connection.

On another note, I am now employed by the church where one of the founders of U of Richmond (J.B. Jeter) was pastor, and I have preached several Sundays at the small rural church that ordained him into the ministry. That's a connection I never thought about until recently. It's probably still not enough to make me a big time Spiders fan, though.

And, by the way, seems like this thread has attracted quite a few new-ish posters (like a few dozen posts). Good to hear from you guys; glad you're here.

Well I graduated from Richmond, my brother graduated from UNH, my father graduated from Princeton, and my grandfather graduated from Yale, so ties to 4 1-AA teams, and I have gone to games at all of them.

ASU graduate with the class of 1970. My two brothers and their wives also are App graduates. My older brother and I played baseball at App. I've been attending App football games since 1966 and in the last ten years I've only missed a handfull of games. I've been a Yosef member and a football season ticket holder for more years than I can remember. GO APPS!!

I'm currently enrolled at Missouri State, projected to graduate in December of '07 (Bachelor's in Professional Writing). Spent three years in the Pride of Missouri State Marching Band as a member of the drumline. This will be my first year away from the band, so I'm looking forward to tailgating early on Saturday mornings rather than rehearsing.:D

I also have a cousin at SEMO and another one at Illinois State, whose father graduated from Western Kentucky back in the early-to-mid 80's.

On a side note, I also got to watch Missouri State beat Georgia Southern in basketball 101-55 on our home floor this past December. :)

Grew up in Newark, graduated from UD undergrad and masters. All 3 siblings graduated from UD and my mom got her masters from UD. If you live in Delaware UD is a tremendous bargain tuition-wise and is a decent school on top of that.

Basically 80% of my family went to SU. My father a 4-year letterman back in the late 70s, my mother was one of the first women to march in the "Human Jukebox" back in the late 70s/early 80s.

My sister was a 3-year played basketball at SU from 92-96.

My first college football game was William & Mary vs West Virginia University at Mountaineer Stadium in Morgantown, 1967 (downtown campus).

RMU started football in 1993 so no football for me. I played on the baseball team. Back then we only had basketball, baseball, and tennis. Now RMU has 21 sport teams.

My sisters both graduated from West Virginia University. My brother in law from Washington State University. They went to graduate school to Arkansas and Nebraska. We grew up and went to High School in Greene County, PA around 50 miles south of Pittsburgh, PA and 30 miles north of Morgantown, WV.

I also attended Rochester Institute of Technology and Penn Technical Institute. So in my family you can see I am the only one with a relationship with Div I-AA football.

I always have and always will back Div I-AA football. The only Div I Football that has a championship playoff !

I grew up in Wilmington, DE, and was an avid fan at a young age. Although, my Dad went to Purdue, he was a big fan of UD football for many years until he passed away. I have fond memories of going to games with my Dad. Living in Jacksonville for the past 25 years has made it difficult for me to follow the Hens. Thanks to Internet radio, I can listen to the games and occasionally get a chance to watch one. I found the AGS site during the Hen's championship year and have been hooked ever since. UM Law graduate, 1985. My brother is an UM Journalism grad from the same year, and his wife is also an UM Journalism grad, in 1984. None of us still work in the fields in which we graduated (not that we were poor at them--we ended up not liking them much).

I took classes at, ahem, Montana State University and Whitman College before getting my B.S. in Elementary Education at Western Montana College.

Sister graduated from App in 2001 with a BA in Theatre.

Mom attended App for 2 years before moving onto UNCG for a degree in Nursing. Received her masters from Georgetown in Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Both my aunt and uncle are currently employed at ASU, and most of my family has lived in Boone for decades.
