Not sure where to put this but I want a lot of people to see it.

Anybody else getting hit with virus attacks while visiting this website. My office desktop got hit with Windows XP Antivirus 2012 while reading messages here earlier in the week. I cleaned that all off and then yesterday morning, it got hit again with Windows XP Internet Security 2012 while here. The weak @ss AVG antivirus software that my it company put on my office computers isn't worth a cr@p.

I decided not to surf with my office desktop anymore but to use my laptop with Norton on it. Well, Norton just blocked an attempt while viewing the messageboard.

Anybody else having this or is it just me?

If it happens again please go to your Anti-virus reporting page that will have all the attacks line listed - copy and past it
and post it right here for us so we - Read it as it's written by your anti-virus software - then we can get a handle on what you're experiencing

I know on CS there was an avatar by one poster that was causing people's virus stuff to go on alert. PM me if you have any info. on what could be going on.

Though yesterday I clicked on a link within AGS. It was some "sports site" I was unfamiliar with and I don't remember the name. The link opened into a new page. After getting there and reading whatever it wouldn't allow me to close out that page. It essentially made my entire computer "unresponsive". Ultimately I had to shut down my computer to get out. :(

HEY! That happened to me a couple weeks back and I assumed it was just me. Was it a link to an ESPN type site to view games? I think that's where it happened to me and if so I'll go wrangle that link and get it gone.

I wasn't on very long and didn't look at many of the strings. The only link I clicked on was the Flanders' Flip youtube link but I can't get the attack to repeat clicking on it.

Here is the screen shot of the Norton attack report. I never heard of the website and can't get to it with my browser. Somebody more savy concerning computer virus can probably shed more light on the report.

I couldn't google anything up on cooveh.com or cooveh.com/news but if I enter cooveh.com in my browser, I get access forbidden. If I enter cooveh.com/news in my browser I get the same Norton popup about the attack blocked. I have no clue as to why I would get attacked by that website here. And have no clue as to what it is. As I said, someone more savy about viruses could probably shed more light on the subject.

Yeah. That year UCA had a heck of a FB named Hebert (pronounced hey-bear). His career was SHORT due to a leg injury if I remember right. Heck of player though. I remember watching that kid's runs through the middle and thinking, wow, not a speedster, but that horse that will get you a few hard yards. Memory lane. LOL

Edit: Just remembered Hebert transfered. I'll have to look up where. Hey, something to do in the off-season. xlolx

Again I don't remember what site it was, however it was not ESPN. It was a name I wasn't familiar with so it wasn't Sports Network or such. The link was within somebody's post which led to a write up on one of the games (or possibly it was a video clip). If I bumble into that again I'll make note of the site name. At the time I just wanted to get the heck out of it.

I got the virus two nights ago, for me it was Windows Vista Antivirus 2012. It's a rogue, so it will adapt and pop up as whatever system you're running. One of the best tools you can have is MalwareBytes...

It's free, updates several times a day, and will not negatively affect Norton so you can have both. MB had no problems removing the virus I got on here, but it's best to download it beforehand as most of the fake antivirus trojans will prevent you from using Firefox, IE, or whatever you're using to some extent (they'll prevent you from visiting sites like Norton, MalwareBytes, and other antivirus sites in an attempt to save its own life) and most have some capability to block .exe files, so if you don't already have MalwareBytes, it's more complicated than it needs to be. You can run MB anytime, but if you do get the virus, just restart the computer in safe mode if you find that you're having trouble (for instance, the version that is going around AGS will block you from updating Norton, so if you haven't updated it recently, you can't get the update to fix your new found virus).

Folks seem to think it could be a link to another site in a post somewhere.

Also, it is possible for malware to be embedded in the "rolling" ads that you get on web pages, from an ad service. Even Google was hit with this some time ago.

Apple recently had to deal with a run of infected Adobe Flash trojans that affect OS X. (I am told this was a fake installer, not necessarily ads. I'm not a Mac guy, tho.)

I certainly don't know that that is what happened, but it is possible.

Also, different anti-virus / anti-malware softwares will often detect things the others miss. I run Malwarebytes and Super Anti Spyware on top of AVG. All of them are free versions, which is cool unless you get something really nasty, becasue, for example, the free version of AVG does not scan for rootkit infections....

Can't honestly say. We had the same problem on two separate occassions last year, once for about a week or two last year when the site was using pop-up ads, there were some infected ads, and once when someone on here posted a link to a picture, the link led to a virus. It could be that simple, just a link on here that we all visited, but since it didn't happen immediately after clicking a link, I couldn't venture a guess. The way we knew last year was when the guy posted the link, as soon as you clicked it, a couple of users had anti-virus warnings go off, so whoever had posted it was able to just remove the link.

I have Norton, and I have been having the same issues. Luckily Norton is able to block each attempt, but it's weird that attacks are coming out of this site.

My McAffee has been giving me a regular blocked content message over the last week only when accessing this site so I think it is something here. I have not allowed the blocked content so no report to provide. Seems to hit as soon as I log into the site and come into this forum area. BTW this only happens on my laptop using Google Chrome not on my work computer using IE (hope this helps)

I've been telling people about the MSE for at least a couple years now and replaced the AVG to go with Avast and once I put MSE I pretty much couldn't believe that Microsoft had done something so correctly and were giving it away. I've had the pay versions and nothing has ever worded as well as MSE and been so in the background you don't even realize you have it. That's the best tip on here other than the Malwarebytes which I also use.

There should be no more issues regarding the scrolling ads
These were not attacks - they are called widgets - The scrolling advertisers are not supposed to run active widgets within their ad
However some do, the widgets include things like location & server finders / page viewing counting devices / time of day devices / all this is designed to help the scrolling advertiser to figure out who what and where they were showing.... they do this as an attempt to bypass Google. Google supplies them with the data monthly but they'd like it minute by minute so they write widgets into their ad-code

I repeat these are not attacks
However a good software protection package running with a web browsing application (Norton etc. etc.) will see it as a form of intrusion and become "alerted" because the ad is trying to find out some things about you... like where you are and what time of day it is where you are and if you can actually see the ad - or where you are viewing the page scroll in relationship to where the ad is running... etc. Widgets run on the interwebs all over the place

Yep I have my settings set pretty high since occasionally the children use my laptop and they tend to find some nasty arsed viruses so I would rather be safe than sorry.

Please be advised Google works diligently to remove the widget loaded ads
It's interesting advertisers with motion in their ads - moving or sliding images - sneak the widgets into the gif executable
also an ad format might get approved by Google as "clean" and then when the company "updates' the ad content they sneak in a widget or two

Look at the attacker URL. Your computer is infected with some kind of adware that is generating a popup to that virus website when you go to a safe site and you just are not seeing it happen(it is a background process).

Reformat your computer.

And, it hasn't been only this computer. My poorly protected (the AVG antivirus they put on it is not worth a *****) office desktop got hit with the Windows XP Antivirus 2012 virus while I was here last week. It was perfectly cleaned with MalwareBytes and a couple of other antivirus programs. It ran perfectly for two days until I came back here on it. And bang, I got hit with the Windows XP Internet Security 2012 virus.

XP is on the office computer because of the Dental software requires it. Laptop and desktop computer at home are Windows 7. Don't remember what is on my wife's laptop.

The scrolling ads run some widgets that might cause some alerts on protection software
But this site is clean

Have you used Firefox as your browser..? Try that

The guys at the MalwareBytes forum can be a great help. I'm going to work with one starting Monday to clean off that office computer again. Malwarebytes, by itself, wouldn't get rid of it.
