I was thinking the same thing. It feels as if NDSU is comfortable with the 17 point cushion and doesnt give LU any chance of denting it and is saving effort for next week - and feels it doesnt have anything to prove with a wider margin to press for it.

Well Lehigh had a great season, but it's ending tonight. Hats off to the Bison. Played tremendous defense tonight. I think LU actually played well enough on defense to win, but the offense couldn't get anything done tonight. Obviously the Bison D had lots to do with that. However, LU didn't help themselves with play calls at some key points. I don't think if Spadola played that Lehigh would have won, but he would have been a big help for lots of reasons.
Good luck to the Bison next week against GSU. I'm pretty sure GSU will put some points up!

This was my take before the game, i think it turned out to be pretty accurate.

"NDSU just has to focus on the short passes and tackle well. If they do that they should win the game comfortably. Lehigh doesn't have the ability to stretch the field in the passing game. They also don't have any big play potential outside of a trick play. I would expect the NDSU's DB's to be able to jump the short routes and get a couple int's as a result.

Lehigh's defense needs to play a monumental game to have a chance."

"With everything I said, and having seen both Lehigh and NDSU play, I think NDSU wins 34-13.

I don't see how Lehigh is going to be able to keep the NDSU defense honest. They're going to have use some sort of dink and dunk, screen orientated offense which won't have much success against NDSU's D. I think Lehigh's defense will play very well for the first 2.5 quarters but will ultimately wilt from being on the field too much"

I could not watch do to other commitments but followed enough to see that The game pattern went the way that many said would lead to a NDSU win. Clearly a bend but don't break D and even with a kicking game FG's don't put you in position to win football games.

Wishful thinking!;) My problem with Colvin being in is it was incredibly unfair to Lum who had driven the team down the field. Colvin, quite frankly, was inconsequential all year. That's what made him being in there to throw was so odd. Sometimes coaches, all coaches, just out think themselves.xoopsx

Taking Lum out when it was 17-0 and you guys were driving in the red-zone really baffled me. Fine if you want a running qb to come in and run but to have him throw what was an absolute terrible decision. If you guys could have scored there it would been 17-7 heading to the fourth...

It was my first bison game and I enjoyed the playoff atmosphere in the dome. It really amplified the noise at even the lame moments.

My one comment from the game, Coach Coen, or whoever pulled Lum on that drive, comes up with one of the worst coaching decisions I have ever seen in my life. What the heck happened there? Maybe pick a different moment of a game to try your backup quarterback trickery. I guess one more comment. How often during the quarterfinals of the playoffs does a team have 3 TO's in the first half and still lead 17-0?

Well done Bison, I may very well have to come again next week.

Understatement of the year. I still cannot get over that call. UFR. There were over 100 of us at Starters and we were all dumbfounded. Why does one take a Walter Payton Finalist out after driving the team 70+ yards?! Not sure if that was Cecchini's call or Coen's, although Andy has the last say. NDSU is a real tough team. I think Spadola's absence allowed the secondary to clamp down on our receivers without having to double the WRs and allowing the upfront D to blitz alot, which clearly bothered Lum. Facing frequent blitzing without your one of your 'hot' receivers effects not only timing but confidence. Gordon had one catch, and that was early in the game. Still, I don't see Spadola's absence making difference in the outcome, but would have been a closer game. Defense was unable to get off the field, as I said earlier that was the number one key. Those two 15 yard penalties that allowed Bison to continue that 97 yard drive for a TD was huge. A team like ours cannot afford such stupid mistakes. I was very impressed with Bison's run game..#22 was very impressive with his quick change of direction. We faced no back like that this year, and at this level, the difference in speed between the teams is evident. Not being able to take advantage of the turnovers early was huge. Getting up early in the game was important, and against great teams opportunities like that don't happen often.

Still, it was a great season for us. 11-2 (21-5 over last two years), back to back undefeated league titles, and likely Lambert Cup Champions! The strange events of the past week ending up with a loss puts a bitter taste in the mouth, but upon reflection, this will go down as one of the best in Lehigh's history.

Spring ball will be very interesting, as I suspect the competition for starting QB will be WIDE OPEN. Colvin is a great kid, big and strong, but he's come up short several times, now, in big situations with turnovers. Bialkowski is a better thrower and the freshman from Arizona is fleet afoot. A number of receivers, including Spadola will return, as will the entire backfield and half the OL. So the future remains bright.

Good luck Bison! I expect to see you in Frisco. A real class program that plays football the way it should be played....except for the carpet (;-)

As for the atmosphere, there were a couple good ribbing cheers when Lehigh came out to the field before the game started, but I didn't hear anything collective after that. I was recently part of a student section, and people may think certain cheers are "classless," but drunk college kids don't give a **** what anyone thinks. So, I enjoy a good collective bash every once in a while. I believe the two very short but decently loud cheers I heard were: "You Can't Tweet That" (You can't do that) & "Where is Ryan?" (Let's go bison, followed by clap sequence) Haha, I liked their creativity and that they only did it momentarily during Lehigh's entrance. Go ahead, call it classless, but if you do, please show me to a large group of intoxicated college students who only show class. :P

There is nothing wrong with those cheers whatsoever. Just shows kids are having fun. When I started reading your post I was thinking they got more specific which I would have viewed differently, but no problem with that support of their team. That type of stuff is part of why the students have fun at the games and the student section is a huge part of the atmosphere of any college game. xthumbsupxxbowx

Yes, we have a good core coming back on both sides of the ball next year. While we will lose a big senior class, Coen and Co. have worked alot of underclassmen into the mix throughout the year. Biggest Q will be at QB..Is Colvin ready for prime time or will Bialkowski beat him out? Colvin is big and strong, but questionable accuracy...might remind some as a mini-Tebow. Bialkowski appears to have a stronger and more 'fluid' arm, so the competition should be good. Two other QBs in the wings as well, though much greener.

Hopefully by the end of Spring ball things will be a little clearer as to who will be the next QB...I think it is bad for the team for there to be controversy over that position. All teams need a good steady QB to lead them. I was happy with the game. Both our teams seemed to be off to start the game but I was glad to see that for the most part it was a clean game no major injuries for either team. Hope to play host to Lehigh again in the future.

We hope. Boyko, one of our LB's left with what could be a serious knee, and RB Sherman left with what looked like an ankle. Word not back, yet on degree. But considering the 'reputation' of the "the carpet", there didn't seem to be # of injuries that would be beyond the norm of any game on grass or field turf. Yes, we'd like another crack at the Bison. In fact, I'd like to see how they do without "the 12th Man". (;-) A neat atmosphere, though. A lot of schools are jealous of that.

squealofthepig - As a Lehigh fan in attendance I thought the whole Fargo and game experience was fantastic. Wearing our Lehigh attire around town we were made very welcome. I can't begin to count how many times people went out of their way to stop us and welcome us to Fargo. Many invited us into their tailgates - where we were enthusiastically welcomed (thanks again FBC)!

The atmosphere in the Fargodome was as expected - festive and loud. I know for a fact that our players were looking forward to it also, definitely not the usual patriot league gameday atmosphere. I also didn't think the student-led chants were over the top, especially compared to the behavior of the Towson and Delaware fans at our last two playoff games.

Thanks Bison fans and best of luck the rest of the way!
