WTF was that?

December 9th, 2011, 09:58 PM
Rennie did okay. He just didn't have any help.

Absolutely. He's been UNI's only weapon, and only when he was running for his life.

UNI's blocking looks worse than App's did v. Maine

Mr. C

Ouch. What a bad throw and Rennie looks to be finished. 47-10 and still almost nine minutes left.

I think SHSU is favored no matter what we think of the Southland. It would indeed be an upset.

I'm just sayin. UCA was crucified and laughed at last week for losing to Montana in Missoula 41-14. UNI just lost in the next round to Montana in the same Missoula stadium, 48-10. I think a lot of posters on this forum owe UCA an apology, or get down just as bad on UNI as they did UCA.

UNI was a 5 seed. UCA was only in because of the 20 team format. The Southland isn't as good a conference as the Big Sky, MVFC, SoCon, or CAA. They are at best a second tier conference.

Well that sucked. Unquestionably the better team won. I am embarrassed with how bad the Panthers played. Apparently basics like tackling and catching are not our strong points. Montana actually looked really good, but I don't think they were 38 points better than us. The Panthers just gave up at the end of the half, and that should never happen. I have never seen a UNI team get beat like that. A lot of it was Montana, but we really played terrible as well.

Certainly I wouldn't want to play the Griz again any time soon. That team looks like they might roll to Frisco, and roll through whomever they have to meet there. I will be cheering the Griz on the rest of the way. Good game, and good luck the rest of the way!

Of course, if I was misled by a Bobcat fan, I'll never admit it. I'm sure you understand. (But glad you weren't taking it too seriously - if you'd been aggressive with this, you'd be at Winehouse-levels of intoxication, which is not good for anyone who isn't a member of the Rolling Stones).

I personally think it's rather exciting to see my team run up the score on teams in the playoffs, especially from the quarterfinals and beyond. It was a good show watching the Griz dominate and being able to watch/hear the raucous crowd through the fourth quarter. Also, it is always fun watching your second stringers play in the playoffs! We had a few close games this season, so it's nice to get our biggest blowout in the quarterfinals against a previously confident Northern Iowa team.

We didn't run up the score, though. We ran the ball on fourth and four from about the twenty (to just keep the clock moving), so Pflugrad is clearly showing he's not the type of coach that just adds points to add points.

I'll agree, though - the last four games from the Griz have just been outstanding (other than the sub-filled Western Oregon game). I love how our team team looks, and we're still playing, and in the final four - how could any fan be upset by that?

Whoa whoa whoa... when have I ever posted anything negative about Delaware? :) I think I've been a pretty positive supporter of the Hens for years on here, to be honest.

The Griz DID look vulnerable at times against DII Western Oregon. It was actually a bit concerning, even with all our subs. Fortunately, Weber State (+255 yards), Montana State (+223 yards), UCA (+125 yards) and UNI (+206 yards) have me feeling pretty positive.

2) and one glaring holding call against UNI

Yep, officially announced and everything. Maybe it's the homer in me, but it seemed to be a well-called game (on balance). A few odd calls which could go either way (depending on who you're rooting for), but ultimately weren't a deciding factor. I gotta give 'em props, really.

that's the thing... he's dangerous anywhere he gets played. as a return man? fearless. as a straight one on one cover DB? hungry, knows when to jump on the ball for the INT. as a kinda floating safety? sniffs the ball out and hits hard as hell when he sees it...as a WR? got great hands and isn't going to go down until he's pulled down. dude can play anywhere on a football field.

I didn't check too hard, but hadn't seen this posted yet. Gave me chills.

http://dailydickpunch.com/2011/12/08/friday-night-lights-college-playoffs-return-to-montana/

It shines in the distance, a beacon of all that’s right with football, nestled between a sleepy beer-first-college-second town and a mountain. And right now, it’s quiet; the relatively new SprinTurf field untouched by cleats. It sits and waits for its cameo, as the lights trucked in by ESPN for the event blaze through the night.

Washington-Grizzly Stadium sits next to a canyon called “Hell Gate,” so named for the ambushes carried out by hoards of Native Americans as white settlers made their way across the Rockies to begin new lives on the Pacific coast. Much blood was spilled in this very spot. Naturally, the powers that be saw fit to add a University to the equation, and in 1986, a football stadium.

Since then, it’s grown into one of the premiere football venues in the nation, the Taj Mahal of I-AA Football, now known as the Football Championship Subdivision, or FCS. Originally, seating was for 12,000, plus end zone grass seating, but the stadium has been expanded numerous times. In 1995, permanent seats were added to the end zone areas, bringing capacity to around 19,000. Corner seating was added in 2003, and a grandstand was added in 2008, complete with a club level and atrium that brought the stadium’s capacity to over 26,000.

It’s big. It’s loud. The seating areas are so close to the field, opposing teams have a hard time hearing, breathing, seeing straight. For most of the kids who come in, this stadium is so much bigger than their home field, it can boggle the mind.

Last week, Montana drubbed upstart Central Arkansas 41-14, in a game almost nobody outside the stadium saw, thanks to ESPN’s contractual stranglehold on the FCS Playoffs. “This is one of the Mt. Rushmore college venues in the country,” Central Arkansas coach Clint Conque said. “You can’t spot a team three turnovers and 17 points like that. We really dug ourselves a hole.”

Friday night’s matchup with Northern Iowa (ESPN, 8pm ET) figures to be a bit more even; the Panthers have already knocked off several ranked teams on their way to and through the playoffs, but they’re catching Montana at a bad time, with the Grizzlies having won their last 8 games, all but one by double digits. Playing at home, in the playoffs, the Griz are almost untouchable. And after Montana missed the playoffs last year, for the first time in 19 years, Griz fans and players alike are hungry to turn a page and get back to National Championship-level play.

If the Penn State scandal, or the University of Miami scandal, or the USC scandal have you down on college football, look no further than ESPN on Friday night. See the game played the right way, by kids who are just looking for a full ride scholarship and a chance to win some football games. See games that matter in December. See a champion crowned on the field because of what they accomplished there, not due to some pandering in a conference room in a tower in the sky. See kids that really care about their University, playing for pride and a shot at the championship, because here every game really does matter.

Watch and see what real championship football looks like (hint: it’s not settled by guys in suits and ties). Watch and see how much better it is on the good side.

Then join the growing chorus of voices, screaming for the death of the BCS and the rise of a playoff system in major college football.

Oh, and as for this game, make mine Montana 31, UNI 20.

Hey man, thanks for the compliment on the story.

If you want to read the postmortem, it's here: http://dailydickpunch.com/2011/12/10/montana-48-northern-iowaillinois-10/

Cheers.

(got away on a pretty rough PI early in the game today, ill admit).. he'll shut anybody down. as has been said a million times already...smart teams don't throw the ball in TJ's direction. if they do, they get burned. what this has ended up meaning is that houston roots has got alot of action in his jr. year and grown into an ace himself. montana secondary is strong.

Question on the end of the game. Jabin Sambrano acted like he was pulling a knife out of a sheath, stabs the qb, wipes the blood off, and returns knife to sheath...Is this something they have done before?
Just wondering if this is something new? If it was the NFL he would get fined/suspended, just wondering what the NCAA will think about it?

I believe it's a penalty in college football as well, I don't think you can go to the ground in a display

There is an overwhelming # of fans that and cohorts on these borads that you can take pride in, then there are some over reacting/completely missing the point types like NDSU has with LakesBison.

To the NDSU guys that pm or report me to ban someone because you think they are an embarassment but I tell you that this won't happen...here's the reason...if I won't do it for myself and Griz fans then I'm not gonna do it for you either.
