In what's getting to be monotonous, Bucknell has regained the President's Cup for something like the 15th time in the 20 years the award is given for both Mens and Womens sports. Bison had 115.75 pts to Army's 108 with Lehigh finishing third at 97.75
Lehigh did win the Men's Division with 55.75 followed by Army at 53.75 and Navy-52.25.
Bucknell women won by a large margin, 70 pts to Army's 54.25 and Colgate third at 48.5.
Army had won the award in 2005 breaking Bucknell's streak of 7 straight years of winning the Cup. Only Bucknell and Army have won the overall award in the 20 years of its existence.

Soyntantly--with the irony that Army and Navy don't compete in the PL for that sport, but still do well in the all-sports competition. Bucknell really scarfed up a lot of points in the women's side by winning at least four championships.

We're having a great discussion about this on the Lafayette board. The way the President's cup is set up, Bucknell wins every year basically because of track. Ridiculous points are given for individual running championships and Bucknell emphasizes track, unlike most if not all the PL. If you care, here's the link: http://www.voy.com/83003/. It's the thread that starts "Thank God for Holy Cross".

Colgate could give a rat's ass about the Cup. I assume Lehigh too.

I wasn't aware they awarded points for all the individual champions. I thought they would just get team points for coming in first, second, third, etc., as in the other sports.

you are correct ngineer. no points for individuals. the "complaint" is that xc runners participate on three teams: xc, indoor t&f, and outdoor t&f. Bucknell's women swept these three sports, but the men have struggled in recent year's, 6th in both t&f championships.

unlike some others e.g. gate13 and Andy, i do value Bucknell's success in winning the President's cup. while i agree with them that championshipsin the higher profile sports are important, I am pleased that Bucknell is able to be competitive in most sports (although football in recent years has of course been sub par).

OK, I understand the issue. Doesn't bother me. XC only would cover a few of the track and field events 1500 and 3200 meters. Heck we (Lehigh) had a couple football players on the track team this year, I think, so I don't know where you'd draw the line.
I'm looking forward to the Bison's wrestling team getting 'up to steam' this year in the EIWA. You had a good thing going there 5-6 years ago before they torpedoed the sport. I'm glad to see it's back and hopefully will be competitive near term.

can't claim to know much about wrestling, but things look good so far to my uneducated eye. the first recruiting class seems pretty solid and includes a couple of guys who had national rankings in hs. the coaching staff is very motivated and creative. got Dan Gable to come in to speak at a clinic at BU that many recruits attended. also, worked up a financial analysis looking at the total picture to help sway a kid who had a scholarship offer from UVa. no scholarships will be a factor though.
