2011 AGS Bracket Challenge

This will run just as I did the Playoff Projections. You send me a pm, I send you a link to fill out your predictions with your winner, and the scores or the games.

Superman7515 had a good idea a couple weeks ago of giving 100 rep points to an individual voter if we went above 100 voters since we dipped below the century mark the week prior.

I still have those laying around here somewhere so we'll put those on the line along with a NCAA Championship Sweatshirt or T shirt from the game in Frisco.

that's the minimum, if we come up with something else cool I'll add it to the prize package.

These have to be in and completed by Friday 11-25-2011 at 7p EST.

You will get 10 pts. for each winner in the first round. 20 for each winner in the second, 30 in the 3rd, 40 in the 4th, & 50 for the Championship Game.

Scores matter too. You will have 1/10th of a pt. deducted for each pt. you are off on the total score of a given game and an exact score is worth 5 bonus points.

Got a lot of you in already on this. One thing I thought I'd point out is that there will be a slight refinement on the scoring that I will share with you in a bit.

Also when you fill out your bracket you do not have to send it or share it anywhere. You just close it down and I have it already...you can hit the file menu and click save if you want but those things save after every letter from what I've seen.

Alright, I have a bunch of new sheets to get out for guys that pm'd last night/this morning and I will be working on those shortly so keep a cool tool cuz they are in the works.

MTfan4Life has generously offered his time to help with this and has slightly refined my scoring process. This is how the scoring will be done:

10, 20, 30, 40, 50 point scoring for each game in each round respectively.
A score prediction is to be provided for each game. There will be a tenth of a point deduction for each point a prediction is off the actual score.
For example, ursus picked A over B 27-14. The final score was A winning 24-17. ursus was 3 off A's final score and 3 off B's final score. Therefore, .6 will be deducted from his points for that round. If B had won that game, ursus simply would not have gotten points for that respective game.

First Round scoring example: (Predictions are in bold)
A over B - 27-14
A beat B 24-17 10 points for the win minus .6 = 9.4
C over D - 31-10
C beat D 24-10 10 points for the win minus .7 = 9.3
E over F - 14-7
F beat E 17-14 no points awarded for loss
G over H - 24-21
G beat H 34-3 10 points for the win minus 2.8 = 7.2

9.4 + 9.3 + 0 + 7.2 = 25.9 for Round one.

I think MTFan may be out for a bit. If you need help completing the bracket you have started then pm me and I'll help ya finish it. Eagles fly high once again as Coach Russell smiles down from above. This whole tournament is shaping up as a SoCon/CAA love fest as the West is WEAK save for Montana. Georgia Southern's team speed and intelligence will win out in Frisco over Montana's bulk and heart.

Yes indeed, this will all be up today so everyone that filled out a bracket will be viewable by all and there will also be a running score sheet of who's leading the charge and so forth. Just haven't got it all done between watching some football today.

All brackets were shut off so that no changes can be made and they stand as they were before the games were played today. You can all still look at your individual bracket but you can not make changes to them.

The link in the first post on the thread is updated and all entries that were completed are in the challenge. There is also a link on the right that shows the leaderboard after the first week.

On that note I would like to make a blanket statement to anyone not listed there.

A lot of you didn't make any picks at all, some only completed a small fraction of the bracket like the first and second round and some of you just didn't read the posts in the thread too closely and made the picks but did not put scores in on the games.

Sorry but we just didn't have time before the games started this morning to fix the issue so all those brackets got moved out of the active folder for this contest.

Only less than 3 points out of first place, so I am hanging in there. This next week's full slate should separate the pack for sure.

I have NDSU moving on in a close one in Fargo. I'd rather JMU win, but at least I have a consolation prize if they don't.

I think the App St. / Maine game intrigues me the most. How good are either of these teams? I don't really know other than I know they are both good.

The scores will really start separating next week. Each round is incremented, so the first was kind of just a practice run as long as you didn't have a team that lost in round one advancing too far. Two people had a perfect score. Lehigh Football Nation correctly predicted the SBU/UA score and TTUEagles correctly nailed the JMU/EKU score. There were also a fair amount of scores just a few total points off. Nice work! I look forward to scoring it again next weekend and seeing how it all plays out.

They showed how important football is to Montana to get TV coverage out there by taking the time from the more important things in the country to ensure all fans could watch this Saturday's action. That effort was successful and if their teams get out in consecutive weeks, that would mean they would play in the quarterfinals. After the quarterfinals the game is on national television. There would be no laughing matter if they both lost. The effort was to get the first two rounds on tv. More Montanans got to see the game this weekend and will be able to get to see the game next weekend. There was no push to get the two teams to win the national championship, it was to allow Montanans to watch the football. Win or lose, that was a success.

That hour spent early in the fall watching JMU dismantle Richmond stuck way too much in my mind. Overrating them was my bracket breaker. Also after the NDSU - Lehigh game, NDSU is much stronger than I gave them credit for.

One of our best defensive players, Nick Emmons, was healthy for all of that game and Q1 vs. Maine. 7 sacks, 5.5 from the D-line. No real blitzes, and UR's O'line was chock full of frosh that were ripe for the picking. It was a perfect storm.

Sadly for Nick, he was injured most of his career (Transferred from Army after his freshman year). The few games he played in he dominated, always requiring 2 linemen to block him freeing up holes for others to make plays.

I got luck on picking the Final 4. Never really thought about it being all the seeds, I just looked at the teams individually and made my calls. If I had to do it all over, I might have NDSU winning this weekend over GSU. I also think Montana is capable of winning it all, but I have SHSU winning this weekend. These two games are really hard to predict!

I love doing the game. The best part of it is when someone like you finds fault in what I'm doing. Then I get the chance to get under your skin and also find some humor in the fact that people are doing so.
