This really isn't supposed to be smack (so please don't move it unless it turns ugly) but I was perusing all time records (since 1950) for I-AA teams and there are some surprising schools that have sub .500 records. Many of these programs are very good I-AA programs and keep in mind that this is since 1950 and not just I-AA....

Source? I'd love to check out Colgate. We're currently at 567-427-50 all time.

Not a great thing though when 4 out of 7 Patriot teams are listed!

Hey, where's Columbia in this list? They can't be above .500!

Columbia is second from the bottom, next to dead last, dragging bottom, one step out of the basement, etc.

Nicholls State
#99 - .436 winning percentage

That's actually much higher than I would have thought for the Colonels.
Remember, this is a program that had an 0-11 season in the early 90s and has only been to the I-AA playoffs 3 times with a 1-3 playoff record. Additionally, this year was the first EVER SLC title for the football team.

Hopefully I'll be seeing that number climb closer and closer to that .500 plateau.

We didn't get to pad our winning percentage on the DII circuit :smiley_wi

Seriously though, WM has the second highest winning percentage among current A10 members and is well above 500 since the advent of IAA. Hopefully we can finish the season at 6-5 or better.

Intersting to note that quite a few of these teams could win their way off this list this year. Of course a couple of them would have to go 11-0 and win the NC to do so...

65. William & Mary Tribe 298-298-12 .500
66. Maine Black Bears 267-269-10 .498
67. Northern Arizona Lumberjacks 287-291-6 .497

72. Norfolk State Spartans 252-266-10 .487
73. Gardner-Webb Bulldogs 182-192-2 .487

76. Southern Utah Thunderbirds 203 218 6 .482
94. Sacred Heart Pioneers 68-83-0 .450

Also, there are some teams perilously close to joining the list and could get there this year too...

60. Alabama State Hornets 287-276-12 .510
61. Howard Bison 281-271-8 .509
62. Portland State Vikings 284-275-8 .508
63. Georgetown Hoyas 168-165-2 .504
64. Sam Houston State Bearkats 286-285-15 .501

In Colgate's case, there have been some wild extremes since '50. Some truly awful, dismal seasons such as 1959 (1-8), 1988 (2-9), and 1995 (0-11); and some wonderful seasons such as 1966 (8-1-1), 1976 (8-2), 1977 (10-1), 1999 (10-2) and 2003 (15-1).

Don't look to the teams who played D-II when they were D-II, look for the OOC schedules (especially since 1978). That's where you'll find part of the answer.

Excellent Point!!!! Some scores for Delaware against their weak D-2 schedule while they were d-2 . (Delaware moved to I-AA in 1980)

Delaware 40 William and Mary 0 10/27/79

Delaware 15 William and Mary 13 10/9/76

Delaware is a great example of padding their win total while in D-2!!!!!!!

Unfortunately I don't think that Richmond's all-time record has been above .500 since the 1890 season (not a typo). Currently sitting at 450-589-53. So, best case scenario it'll be at least 2020 before that could change.

Considering the horrendous stretch Lehigh suffered through in the 1960s (1962-1970) wherein the, then Engineers, went 18-64-2, including only 4 wins in five years ('63-'67), I thought we might be in there. Luckily, we started a new tradition...
